Well it looks like "Another: Started a thread, but what the heck I am going to try and keep committed to the Musings for the YEAR!..you have been for warned!

So to kick this off some random's from the weekend..

I was attended a Friday Night Light's battle between Richard Montgomery HS (Soon to be home to my daughter next year..) and the Walt Whitman HS...if your not from these parts these two HS academically are two of the best in the country...just threw that tidbit in there for no reason really..

Any how I almost got a woody watching Whitman play...though in a losing effort, this team in one game ran Spread , Pistol , Single Wing, Double Wing and Power I formations at some point during the night...I mean are you kidding me?!?..who does that!..who coaches that during the week! That is a ton to remember..good stuff, but at the end of the day the Richard Montgomery HS ROCKETS prevailed..28-14

Hey DAD what is worse Wv losing to Iowa State ..on the road..since you like to recant that every now and then...or the #3 team in the country losing on their home field..to Iowa State?...as I predicted and TOLD YOU ALL in Slaton10's week 2 musings, I liked Iowa State, I thought they had enough to compete this year and provide and upset or two...well here was the first one!..

With the exception of Kansas and Baylor ( even though Baylor will provide and upset of someone this year) folks, the Big 12 maybe the most competitive conference in the country this year..

My Cheerleaders of the Week...the your UCLA Cheer and DANCE SQUADs!

Dance Team 2017-18 | UCLA Spirit Squad

Cheer Squad 2017-18 | UCLA Spirit Squad

Is anyone paying attention to what Mike Leach has done in Pullman?..what an amazing job, never thought it possible with that program...he should be National Coach of the Year..

Okay...on to the Mountaineers...

What can you say...heart breaker....

First I thought it was a great football game...two teams pretty evenly matched. (WTF though the TCU fan base can't sell out that game in that band box?)

There was so much going on in the game that may have been lost on many watching it and may have missed some important things going forward. It was clear the TCU defensive game plan was to rough up the WR's and take the timing and take the WR off their routes ( Simms gave up on the one route causing and interception), it lead to some over throws some missed opportunities, less time for Grier to go thru his reads and hurry a few throws. What I liked they didn't let it get to them, they decided to fight threw it and compete...AWESOME STUFF!..the other thing TCU's defense did was take wide split's with their ends to create one on one's with the tackles and avoid double teams.. that takes a lot of confidence in their LB's to fill holes which they did for the most part, our tackles had their hands full but I would give them a B grade..Grier had to improvise several times but thats all part of it..if you can't tell I was impressed with the TCU Defensive game plan, but equally impressed how Wv responded..

TCU's offense...did just enough to keep drives alive and the clock ticking...and of course hitting one trick play to win the game...their QB looked and played a lot like the kid from VT..felt like I was watching the same offense in many ways...

I know eveyone wants to Blame the refs for the loss and I will get to that later...but make no mistake, the TCU punter won that football game on Saturday..4 punts inside the 5 yard line to start drives in the first half?...amazing!...I was equally impressed of how Wv continued to work themselves out of the hole each time, but it ain't easy to put 95 plus yard drives together against that defense...or any defense really..

I know I seem to have a man crush for Will Grier but how can't you..after an inconsistent first half to some degree, the kid never gets down or ever gets to jacked up...he just grinds...he is able to move onto the next play and forget about the last...I mentioned to BBW that I don't recall Wv ever having a QB with that mentality...kid is a special talent..hope he sticks around for his senior season...he could be our first Heisman winner and a top 5 pick in the draft..

Sometimes I am not sure about Jennings effort in games....can't question him this week...thought he had his best game as a Mountaineer...he was a physical WR out there taking no shit...

Loved the play calling...Spavital decided to pound the rock no matter what...seriously how can our fanbase not like what Wv does on offense they have clearly gone back to the days of playing who is the toughest kid on the block mentality of the Nehlen era...

It also appears Dana is more comfortable in his role...all good stuff for this program going forward...

Mike Molina is terrible..................................DCW your up !!

Defense looked like they used the week off wisely, what a difference #11 makes in that scheme...they all played in control for the first time this year I think..they all played accountable football...the DL played adequate..still over matched in the trenches but at least they decided to play gap control instead of making up field plays that they really don't have the talent to make and have taken them out of position over and over again over the last 4 games..

I hate our CB's...they are all terrible...they are the only group outside of the DL's I guess not to make any kind of progress this year...just bad...and the TCU receivers were not that great...wait until next week!

Speaking of next week while I am at it...don't look for Wv to bring any pressure...like at ALL..they are going to need to help the CB's in a big way next week...look for a lot of 2 deep and man underneath...and that's it..unless somehow Wv gets out to a 2 score lead....

So to the game itself...Wv looses on really two plays...the muffed punt ( special teams failure again) and a trick play...against the #8 team in the country on the road...painful!..

And last to the ref's..I think enough has been covered on this officiating crew..honestly I can't say I watch enough Big12 games to make an opinion that this is life in the Big12, but man another week of crippling calls against Wv ...coincidence??...:scratch:

Well on to TT...and your's truly will be in the stands for this one!...on my way to Morgantown Friday afternoon...apparently BBW has told me we are in the Blue section so I need to get to the Book Store!

No offense taken Brother

Listened to XM college sports today. They were ragging on Florida and said they would be top 10 with Will Grier the stud still on their team. It would be nice if he would stay another year. with all the elite QB talent coming out this year, it may be wise for him to stay.

Depth, Depth, Depth.. after 6 years of Dana where is it?. DL, QB, WR, LB, CB...These positions stand out to me. If the first teamers go down, we are in for a ride. With our starters we have a team that competes with everyone on our schedule. One or two key injuries could doom us.

Special teams doomed us. When will we get a kicking and return game? How often do you lose a game because of the other teams punter?

I think they have depth..just not as experienced as all of us would like...there are some under performers on that depth...say hello to Ricky Rodgers..thought that kid was going to be a player in Morgantown..throw Ferns in there as well..kid can't stay healthy...IMHO if this team comes back 90% intact next year (Taking out Senior Losses and Grier staying)...it has the potential to make a run at the NC!..I said potential...

What I have seen over the years in the 33 it takes a year of quality snaps to really play confident, smart and fast... the younger guys will get better as the year progress's and be studs next year..( I know the mantra of every Wv team..next year) and remember Wv has Jack Allison and David Israel waiting in the wings at QB..

Reading some pregame material, Spav discussed how Patterson studies the route tendencies of the WR's, and drills the kids on route recognition. Spav said it was his job to try to do more unexpected routes to counter. I think that is why we saw our guys do so many crossing routes Saturday.

IMO, the TCU CB's weren't big enough to disrupt our WR's route running. I believe they disrupted the play by dropping to the spot where the pass was intended and then aggressively fighting for the ball. Best example was the last pass attempt to White. The little midget from TCU dropped straight back to the spot on the boundary, and simply broke on the ball disrupting the play.

Grier mentioned that TCU ran 6 different defenses during the opening possession. They did not give him a familiar look the entire game.

While the bye was good for us to get our defense healthy, it was good for those fuckers to come up with trick plays and bullshit coverages to slow us down.

I rewatched the game last night. Can't believe how pissed I was to see the personal foul/hit OOB flag picked up on Sills reception. And, the PI on Sills was so fucking bad. Even the announcers mentioned how calls had not gone our way in the 2nd half of the game. Blatant.

And, if anyone wants to point out discipline issues with Dana as a reason we suck... they must be able to admit Patterson has some major discipline issues. His boys were tugging/grabbing/holding... all game long. True undisciplined football.

It was a good thing that Hit out of bounds didn't cost the team..they went on to score...but man...how do you pick that flag up? How do you over turn the interception?..how are these officials held accountable?...its weekly...and I would agree that most bad calls get a make up call somewhere in the game and usually its not going to affect the outcome..but it clearly did this week.and there wasn't any makeup calls..it only got worse with the phantom OPI on Sills...Dana should have blown a gasket somewhere..maybe after the game on the field ..chased them into the tunnel or something...this game was just too big not to call it straight...

You could see Dana fuming about the hit OOB on Sills because it happened right in front of him. No way you take the INT away from Battle. There was not overwhelming proof to reverse the call.

And, the Sills PI penalty was so blatantly bad, I was screaming at the TV again last night. LOL!!

When you get a chance to rewatch the game... look at TCU's last scoring drive. Around 8 min. left, TCU has 3rd down and 2. They complete a WR screen, and they have a stacked 2 WR set to the right. The lead WR grabs a hold of Battle with two hands... right in front of the referee. I mean the guy is standing 5 ft from the play.

Unfuckingbelievable...

Our old friend goose wanted to start a fund Saturday to help pay the hefty fine for Dana if he chose to go off on the officials during his post-game presser.

There were several who were willing to contribute...

THAT is a good observation..I forgot to mention that in my diatribe! It WAS ridiculous every time blocking down field before the ball ever left the QB's hands.. over and over again

It is an obvious conflict of interest for the officials to be paid by the leagues, I just do not understand why it is allowed to continue!! I read some TCU blogs yesterday where they said it was CLEARLY opi.......I posted the exact thing you just said BB on the comments and got a "not the same at all"........we have got the short end from the officials way too often!!

Particularly against TCU.

I'm tellin ya boys, this series is developing into a nasty little rival for us. Lots of crazy crap through the years that has lead to hard feelings.

Somebody needs to make a trophy!

How is Goose. It be nice to see him, Lambert, and Jeighmonee swing by. Wonder what some of the old CBS Mountaineer posters landed. WVUHistory93, VoiceoftheMtnrs, even that crazy ass Stewmustgo.

Goose is a busy boy! He has two kids now... a young goose and a little girl. He is part of the evening sports radio show on MetroNews too.

I am friends with Lambert, cgibbs and JDakan on Facebook along with some of the other CBS posters I got to know personally. I can't even remember what their screen names were now.

Jeighmonee used to stop by here, and he used to post on scout. Haven't seen him there for years either.

Good for Goose. You need to get some of those guys to stop by and make a guest appearance.

He was annoying at the start but finally came around. Maybe he just grew on me. I guess it was because there weren't any Pitt posters.
