This is a deep draft for WR's. We don't have to reach in any round to get a decent guy to help fill in.

All the guy has to do is make a few catches (i.e. don't drop the ball) and not completely disapear for large stretches through multiple games, and he'll at least be on par with Simpson's stats from last year. The rookie may not have the play making athleticism that Simpson has, but you still only get 6 points for a TD...even if you flip into the endzone and stick the landing.

you would admit though that rookie WR's are notorious for taking a year to adjsut to the NFL. I have no issue having a solid #2 WR in place (i.e. Simpson or a FA) and letting the rook compete...however, totally relying a rookie WR is not a good idea.

WR is a glaring hole now. If we could pick up a guy like Floyd in the first round, we could still pretty easily pick up a CB like Jayron Hosley, Josh Robinson, or possibly Janoris Jenkins in the 2nd or 3rd

CB is a huge hole, but honestly I'd hold off till the mid rounds. I think the geezers can hold down the fort for a year. I want one of the RB's in the 2nd (either Miller or D.Wilson). If they're gone then I'd look at CB. Jenkins I think is the 2nd best corner in the class...but he's a total knucklehead. If he's there in the 2nd and the RB's are gone I'd take him (wouldnt touch him in the first).

Agreed completely. However, I think having AJ on one side, hopefully an upgraded OL and RB to help the passing game, and Dalton at QB will ease the transition.

Plus you will have Shipley/Hawk in the slot and Gresham at TE. The pressure a rookie WR would face on this offense is a lot less than many others would face on other teams.

I wouldn't be opposed to taking Floyd if he's there, but Sanu could be had in the 2nd round if he's there, along with several other solid WR prospects that could come in and compete for a shot right away.

Bengals will draft a CB at 17 or 21, and move Clements to safety thus filling TWO HOLES with one pick!!!

They do have some weapons...I think a real key could be adding a guy like David Wilson that can make plays in the recieving game out of the backfield. I do think they need one guy opposite of Green that can make plays (or at least present a threat) vertically. Ship and Hawk are short/ underneath guys. I like Sanu, too. Floyd is the guy that I really want at 17 and I do think he would come in pro ready (sanu and certainly Hill might take a year)

Sanu might be one of the, if not the biggest, under-rated WR in the draft. His 40 time scared off a lot of people, but the rest of his game is legit. The guy is a monster, and will be a stud down the road. The tape on him is very, very good. Even with teams geared to stop him (only threat Rutgers had) he still would get the ball.

So by your theory, we should always resign sucky players so we don't have to draft good ones? good plan.

No, by my theory, you don't make your team worse before you're ready to make it better.

Sign Simpson to a contract that won't kill you (as if cap space is ever a problem for us) which shouldn't be hard considering his legal woes, and then draft his replacement. And depending on when that replacement is ready, have him slowly take over. And not everyone is AJ Green and can jump right in and contribute. Additionally, currently we have no idea if we'll be able to land Floyd or any number of other receivers in the first couple rounds.

Worst case scenario, depth does not hurt.

No it's not.

If we have made no changes by September 30th, then maybe the WR corps is worse off, but until then, Simpson was still going to be suspended and in no way would be contributing to the Bengals anyways.

As I said, the receiving corps is worse today than it was 3 days ago.

Of course that can change if we draft a stud in the draft ready to contribute right away. But if we don't, then come October, we'll still be worse then than we were 3 days ago (assuming he were resigned).

That's not the point, and no one is making that argument, smart guy.

Those weren't his 'first 18 games.' They were the first games he got INTO. Not because he was hurt. Because he was dumb and not good enough to be on the field, which as a 2nd round pick, you should call nothing else but a bust.

Who gives a crap if they weren't his first 18 games. Anything that happened in his first 2.5 years is irrelevant NOW.

What we do know is that as a starter, in his LAST 18 games, he has put up almost 1000 yards and how many ever TD's Servo referenced. Going forward, THIS is what we can expect, so THIS is what you judge him based on.

The Bengals were in the playoffs last year. They're a playoff team NOW. Who cares about the last 25 years. We're a playoff team NOW and that's how we all should judge them.

We're a mid tier team that snuck into the playoffs.

if that's how you define "play off team" then sure, yea.

Simpson was a FA a month ago, not a few days ago. So Simpson signing with the Vikings has not made our situation any worse than a "few" days ago.

Apples and oranges.

There are countless factors that go into the success of a team, including many uncontrollable factors such as injuries.

There aren't quite so many for a single player coming back into the exact same system with the exact same QB, OC, WR opposite him, etc.

I know you know this...

I can't stand Simpson, so I am glad he is gone. He made 2 exciting plays in his career in my opinion, and one he didn't even score on (the long seam route he almost took to the house against Denver last year), and the leap of faith. Outside that, he has looked pedestrian, inconsistant, drops too many balls (I can't stand f'n WR's who drop more than a few balls a year - if easily catchable). He is a drug addict, he will not even put it aside while he lives out his few years of football life. A football career doesn't last long and being a pot head and getting suspended multiple times for it is not going to prolong it.

He will have one season with Minnesota, he will not be able to learn the playbook, be the #3 guy, Ponder struggles with accuracy, and Simpson drops way too many balls. If we have not improved the situation with WR through this draft or the June 1st cuts, then I am sure he will be available part way through this season, and at worst next offseason.
