WE are getting a WR in the 1st round, bank on it.

Floyd, Wright, Hill....we will end up with one of them come Thursday. Not going to be an issue with Simpson gone. After seeing McNutt, I would almost prefer we target him in round 3, and grab areas of need in the 1st since McNutt looks like a underrated stud.

DeCastro and Gilmore would be ideal,. but you know how it is.

McNutt..a 3rd to 4th round pick. That's the plan as the starting WR. Nevermind that rookie WR's typically take at least a year to devlop. Good luck getting Simpson's 2011 production out of any rookie WR outside of Michael Floyd (who will likely be gone by 17),

With Simpson back that would have been another position of need we could have addressed early in the draft. Instead we now have to take a WR.

Yeah, who will we get to drop 3 passes a game? Simpson is artificially built up by Bengals fans who ignore all the bad games. He had 1 or 2 good games out of 16 last season. He's not very good, but ignore facts all you want. BTW, the FA WRs were by and large overpaid and we're better off drafting one. By far.

Even Minnesota, who has WR issues, is signing him as a #3 guy. There is a reason for that. Your logic doesn't make sense. Should we just keep signing out crappy FAs so we don't have to draft that position? Maybe we should have resigned Livings sober wouldn't need a G and Crocker so we didnt need a S.

50 catches, 725 yards and 4 TD's won't be easily replaced by a rookie. He had less drops than Roddy White, Greg Little, the same amount as DeSean Jackson and Eric Decker.

The goal is always to improve. Simpson isn't very good and improvement was needed.

Before he got arrested for drug charges you wanted to resign him. I can probably dig up the post if you'd like.

you are ignoring the facts by not acknowedging the #'s he put up in 2011 as being productive while pointing to subjective measure like 'he drops a few balls'. Yes, he was a frustrating player at times but again, the fact of the matter was that it was his first full year playing. You have to expect some growing pains. Not everyone is AJ Green.

Simpson is vastly overrated by Bengals fans enamored with his flip TD and few big games. The Vikings signed him as a 3. They know hi value.

I know the value of a #2 WR. When we don't have one you will miss him. As I said before the drug arest you wanted him resigned.

Simpson had 54% of his yards in 3 games. He topped 50 yards just 4 times. The guy hardly drew the coverage required to keep teams honest with AJ on the other side. Come on. Let's be real. If you're a D-Cord you don't lose sleep at night before playing the Bengals because of Simpson messing up your coverage for AJ on the other side.

He had 4 years to get his stuff in order and crack the lineup. He failed. I'm pretty sure we can find another guy that can come in and do what he did...appear for 3 games out of 16.

subtraction by subtraction. Rome is a notoriously slow learner and still put up 750+ yards recieving with 4 TD's in his first full year as a starter in a new system with a rookie QB. We have nothing at #2 WR. We did not have the luxury of letting him go as the bengals ignored all the viable #2 WR's on the market. Really, all we have now is Armon Binns who was undrafted, released by a team with nobody at WR and that has never suited up for an NFL down. Simpson was clearly the best option and better than many are giving him credit for.

I agree with this. We ignored the position entirely in the FA market and then we still let our #2 from last year go (#4 in Caldwell is already gone).

props for providing some substance to your post other than "he's horrible". That being said we all knew he was a project when he was drafted. The fact that he had his biggest games when AJ was out speaks to his talent. You'd also have to note that he did miss a game or two last year. Regardless, for it being his first full year on the field he did produce. Plus, let's not forget that he played with Dalton who while promising was a rookie who had to have his WR's make spectacular plays at times on poorly thrown balls.

The way I see it, the Bengals did all the work. They wasted a draft pick, spent the time developing this guy and they're jsut going to let him walk? I'd be okay with that if they would've replaced him with a FA...but if it's between Simpson and Binns as the #2 WR the choice isnt a difficult one (for me at least).

Simpson had 725 yards total, nearly 400 of those in 3 games. Here are his receiving totals in the other 13 games:
44
6
26
40
14
43
0
15
0
38
14
42
54

He also had 50 catches, good for a tie for 69th, behind such luminaries as Jason Avant, Early Doucet, and Austin Collie.

They should never have drafted him when they did in the first place.
