you see that is the thing that worries me,,
he will be hit hard and often just to see if he can take it,,I wouldn't call it dirty play but it will happen

Does it worries you that all hockey players take hits or is it just Cindy that you worry about?

I'll honestly say I hate Cindy & Gina and the rest of the Pens with a passion. However I am also not in favor of guy taking cheapshots at any NHL player(of the intent to injure variety).

At the same time I'm really tired of reading about how they're "worried" about how Cindy will hold up being hit game after game. If you want to see go with the Flyers - Pens series from this years playoffs. You'll see how much the physical plays wear on him from game 1-6 he became a totally different player. As the series dragged on he kept his head up more, tried to limit his exposure to the dirty areas, shed away from physicality and started dishing out more hacks and slashes(game 6 he calmed down with this but games 4&5 he was as brutal as Gina). This to me shows he wasn't physically ready to come back to play, the guy is a world class talent and will put some points up but to be a dominant superstar he has to be able to do more then just score.

The truth is I don't think you're getting the same Cindy back as before his concussions, that's probably true with most players who go through the same situation. Pitt is going to need to insulate him a bit and try to find him some wingers who have sped and can bang a bit for him to be the most effective.

I'm not a huge fan of long-term contracts at this point, think the last 2 years have soured them. I'm all for teams taking full advantage of the current CBA though so I suggest they do it will they can, since I think in the new one contracts will have stricter perimeters. This is no risk to the Pens though monetarily though as if Cindy goes down for good his cap hit comes off. Shero's done a good job this off season so far guess we'll find out if that turns to great over the weekend.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you're not much of a Crosby fan, eh?

Don't be silly, I hate all the Pens.

I don't like the guy, however I don't want to see him Savarded(well Cooke's on his team so he may be safe) and have his career end. I was just being honest as I've seen this with both Lindros and Primeau already. I just don't get how some people can be so totally concerned when it's Cindy and not if it was any of theother guys who went down from big/dirty hits this year, it's very hypocritical in my eyes.

I'm not sure how hypocritical it is. You guys obviously went through the same thing. The thing is, when it really comes down to it, it's about the team. We don't all care as much as we should about the individual players/people, we care about our team winning. It's disgusting, but that's the reality.

When Savard got his concussions, did anyone lose sleep worrying about him and his family? I'm sure they lost a lot more than any of us. Even here, we mentioned Savards hockey career ending, but haven't discussed how the rest of his life is. It's worse than being hypocritical, but that's human nature. It's me-first unless we put deep thought into it.

A rumoured deal that will expire when a player is 36 or 37 is quite different though from a deal that expires when a player is 42. I just don't know if I want to be the insurance company on the hook for the Crosby contract.

The league needs a healthy Crosby and I hope he can stay healthy
.

I agree, although I wouldn't mind a strong bout of tuberculosis every four years or so, in Februaryish.

I like the physical play but not the cheap shots and the fighting to me has no place in the game,,,,,,and I don't like seeing any player injured

Think about where the salary cap will be in 5 years, then think about how this guy will be making the same amount at 36 as he did when he was 20. This shows me that the guy is completely 100% dedicated to the franchise...how can you not love/respect that? I always have a soft spot for guys that are "lifers". Just a lot of respect there.

Great signing. I don't know why some people are saying it's risky? Sure, there are some concussion concerns, but the Pens would get that space back in LTIR? So, worse case scenario, they pay him out when he's injured (or they pay a boatload for insurance along the way), but that's risky for the owners' pocketbooks, not the on-ice team, so I couldn't care less.

On the flipside, if Crosby stays healthy and plays anywhere near his perceived potential, this is an INSANELY good contract. It will just get better as the cap goes up. Six, seven years from now, it's possible Crosby will be playing for the same amount as Wideman-calibre D.

On top of that, the Pens made two more things clear by announcing this deal early: 1) You get to play with Crosby long-term, and the savings from this contract can be yours, 2) We are willing to front-load contracts (a new thing for the Pens). There's a reason they didn't wait until Sunday.
