What is with the secrecy of the release? Are there that many complications that couldn't have been resolved by now? This says it is expected on the 22nd but could be the 23rd or 24th. It was supposed to be the 17th.

It's not a secret, but there's a huge number of things that go into creating an NFL schedule even if things go perfectly.

You have to negotiate with the stadiums (there might be concerts, special events, or whatever going on), negotiate with the TV sponsors, deciding what time to play, which day to play, who's getting prime time games, deciding if there are special factors (elections, london game, security threats like if 9/11 falls on a Sunday in New York), making sure there aren't any uneven schedules where something stupid like having 6 games straight on the road. Those are the easy things.

It gets complicated if someone isn't happy with something like maybe Monday Night saying they want more of team X on their plate and less of team Y. If an owner isn't happy with his schedule, or if there's a ton of conflicts in fitting games. Plus the networks are all trying to line up events, high paying commercials for certain games. Then you have to send out the rough drafts and then of course someone brings up the obvious thing that the other 100 people some how forgot (Hey you have the superbowl on a Wednesday) and then there are the revisions that screw up the schedule for all 31 other teams and it's back to the drawing board.

I thought I saw something saying we play the Broncos week 2. It was showing their first 4 games and it said us as week 2. Not sure if it is true though or what I was looking at honestly. I It was on ESPN's ticker I think or NFL Network. So I figured the schedule was all done.

That is our pre-season schedule you are referring to. We play the Broncos in week 2 for the first game at Levi's.

I had to submit my vacation requests a few weeks ago, hard to plan a vacation around the 49ers like I have for the Giants.
