Brook Lopez will be 30 next season. And he will be a UFA after next season. They traded him and got a 21 year going into his 3rd season.

Hard to say whether Russell/Mozgov will be more effective than 1/3 Lin/Lopez but I'd say that if Russel can stay healthy they are on the right track.

Agree. Imo, this trade is good for both teams. The Lakers unload an albatross contract and bring in a solid big who is on an expiring deal, plus they pick up a decent asset in the #27 pick. If Lopez works out, they can re-sign him for less. If not, he's gone.

In Russell, the Nets get a good starting point on what is probably going to be a long rebuild.

Russell will blossom into an All Star in Brooklyn. Glad the Lakers won't be able to hold him back anymore.:heh:

So far, this trade has done very little to improve the Lakers' prospects in 2017-2018.

It's not necessarily about the Lakers prospects in 2017-18. It's more about the $60 million in cap space they will have for the 2018-19 off-season.

Also, if the Lakers are to get PG-13 this year, they were going to have to clear some cap space anyway. That is now done.

So either way, they are in good shape. They have the cap space to get him in this year if a trade can be worked out and will have cap space for another max level guy in 2018.

If a trade doesn't get worked out, then they have the cap space to sign PG-13 and another max level guy in the 2018 off-season.

Just curious, but I heard Russell was not a good team player. Do you have any input on this?

He's also a big upgrade over Mozgov.

Besides busting his ass every night, as bad as the Nets were, he always put a positive spin on it, always talked to the media after another loss, always praised his teammates...Guy is a gem

You said that Magic stuck it to the Celtics. In reality, that's probably not the case, especially since Boston gets Sacramento's basically unprotected pick in 2019 if the Lakers pick doesn't convey.

On the court, he was fine, imo. Especially after he was moved to the 2 spot.

However, there has been talk that the Lakers weren't very impressed with his maturity level and presence in the locker room.

That's great to hear. That is an influence that a young team like the Lakers could really use.

I'm thinking the Nets will finished w/ a better record than your Lakers next year. Wait I take that back, those fuckers better be in full tank mode to give the Celtics the best possible draft pick for next year.

On an unrelated topic...oh @WiggyRuss where you at? We all miss you & I can almost guarantee w/ no certainty if you return nobody will give you any shit. And w/ Danny Boy firing his GM 2 days before the draft Goofy Gilbert might take Dolans title as the dumbest NBA owner. It'll be a very close race though.
