Ingram was even worse than Russell so I don't know what would lead Lakers fans to believe he's going to be a star.

OTOH, the chances of Russell becoming a star are almost nil. I can't think of a single guy who was traded before his rookie contract ended that ended up becoming any kind of a star. Marbury WAY back in the day, if you consider him a star, but he forced that trade. Maybe I missed somebody.

???

Chris Webber, Jason Kidd, Jerry Stackhouse, Joe Johnson, James Harden . . . I'm probably missing a ton of guys.

Chauncey Billups. Multiple All Star. Won a Finals MVP. No big deal. Clearly a bust.

Not discussed as a viable factor here on the hoop BK, but I gotta think this was a factor. To what degree, IDK.

A buddy of mine was saying that Magic didn't think DRuss was enough of a team guy. Whether or not the Swaggy ordeal had anything to do with it or not too IDK, but this character flaw could be an underlying consideration for trading this cat away so early in his career.

This is a great trade for the Lakers. I think it was a big mistake to sign Mozgov.

I thought about that. Maybe it's true.

Do you think Magic pulled this off in an effort to help the Nets and prevent BOS from getting another good pick next year?
Lopez was arguably Brooklyn's best player. Even if Russell comes in and impresses... hard to imagine that the swap is anything more than a push for the Nets... at least in terms of next season.

Brook Lopez will be 30 next season. And he will be a UFA after next season. They traded him and got a 21 year going into his 3rd season.

Hard to say whether Russell/Mozgov will be more effective than 1/3 Lin/Lopez but I'd say that if Russel can stay healthy they are on the right track.

Oh... I don't disagree with your analysis. I was only speaking in terms of what impacts the Celtics: how Brooklyn performs next season.

they'll probably still be the worst team in the league.

Philly is going to be a lot better.

And if Brook goes down (as he usually does) it could just be a rock fight between the Lakers and Nets for the worst record. Which really sets up well for Boston.

The sleeper teams to fall apart are Orlando and Sacto.

They could really blow shit up.

I'm just wondering how this trade is going to impact the great chemistry that the Lakers had. They may not be able to win a game now that their chemistry is all screwed up.

As my buddy was saying, Magic sees the PG spot as the leader of the team, and Magic saw DRuss as a divisive guy.

It always came to mind when we mentioned DRuss in trade talks prior, so it's an easy leap that it may have played a role in yesterday's trade in two ways. One, why they traded him, and two, what they got in return.

At least now for D'Angelo sake, he has an opportunity to wipe the slate clean with a second chance in NJ.
