It's a dream a long time coming. And that dream was/is a wing heavy roster that emphasizes versatility, shooting and 'switch-ability' on defense. "Positionless Basketball", it was often called.
Every team strives for it in the modern NBA. And this is how it actually happened for one team:
Danny Ainge:
And that's the magic "secret sauce" in the modern NBA that every team strives for. In today's game: seemingly every game plan of every team... (especially in the playoffs)... is to create mismatches and then exploit them. But you can't make a living doing that against these Celtics, nor can you cheat off any guys on the other end.
I suspect this '23'24 Celtics team will be somewhat undervalued in the pantheon of Championship teams... the story will be the relatively easy playoff path they faced, mainly due to opponent injuries. But it has to be remembered that the Celtics were not at full health either more often than not... so we were robbed of seeing their best version most of the time.
Anyways... kudos to these two... they deserve most of the credit:

Danny Ainge:
- 2013 - Traded aging Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett in the Nets for a bevy of draft picks
- 2016 - Drafted Jaylen Brown with the #3 pick (considered by many to be a reach at the time)
- 2017 -Traded back in the draft and drafted Jayson Tatum with another #3 pick
- 2021 - Traded declining Kemba Walker for Al Horford
- 2022 - Traded trash, a 1st rounder and a pick swap for Derrick White
- 2023 - Traded Marcus Smart for Kristaps Porzingis in complex deal
- 2023 - Traded Brogdon, RWII and picks for Jrue Holiday
