Heard this yestedayand again this morning.....................

Patriots and Bengals are talking. Nothing is 100% for sure but the "GUESS" is that AJ Green is the main subject of a possible trade to the Patriots. He's 30 years old and is in the final year of his contract. Teaming up with TB12 for one year and possibly wiinning a ring would make his fonal contract a monster. I have to assume that it might take the Bears second round pick to move him, maybe more.

IMO, Green would be a perfect big, downfield target that Brady has soreltmissed since Randy Moss left.

Patriots only have $5.5M in cap space now, so some things would have to be done, like redoing Tom Brady's contract or Devin McCourty's contract or both.
But does Tom still, really have the arm for that down field throw? I guess where I am going with this is that it seems to me a lot of his longer throws have a lot more air under them than they use to thus giving DBs more time to adjust. Not saying this won't be a monster upgrade because it will just curious as to how often we take that shot downfield?

I don't think he'll be going long that often but the threat being there is worth having someone like that on the roster.

The Patriots have been talking to Jerome Kearse. He didn't have a great year last year, but what NY Jet had a great year? Kearse is 29 years old but has a great resume with the Seahawks. He might be the perfect slot receiver that the Patriots are looking for.

Just exactly how many slot receivers do you think the Pats need?

According to everyone around the Patriots, JE was not in the slot last year, he was the X and moved to inside, outside and the slot depending on persnnel and the play being called. Dorsett was primarily lining up outside left. Hogan and Patterson actually spent more time in the slot because Gordon when he was there, was outside right or outside left. Like one guy said, "What exactly is the 'slot'"? Originally it was the WR on the opposite side of the TE in an inside position with a 4 receiver set, it's the third receiver in either position inside on an empty backfield with five receivers. If the team has two RB it's the inside position on the left or right. Everyone has their own definition now. My sense of it is any WR that sets up on the same side as the TE and has a WR outside him.

Well I still feel what ever the slot is considered it's not a position of need on this team. IMO I would really like the team to grab a #1 Edge receiver.

I like the 6'6" guy you brought up last week.
Iowa State Hakeem Butler. His stock is rising he was projected as a third round pick he is now sitting low 1st early second. But I too like him a lot.

AJ Green isn't just a downfield receiver. He's a good route runner

Hmm...Can we get him accused of a bar fight or something??
So he has "baggage" or "questions" ??

I'll see what I can do. He's from Baltimore so he probably tosses hand pretty quick. Let's send some mick for southie to start some shit with him.

They don’t have enough cap space to acquire Green right now. Maybe in the summer when/if they redo Brady’s deal.

I agree. After hearing so much on Hockenson, I watched some of his tape. I think he will be the next great TE. Fant and Smith should be very good also. But Hockenson can block like a nasty offensive lineman. The Patriots would have to trade up to get him.

Lots of WR’s I like too. My personal favorite is Hakeem Butler. Tall... fast... great hands.

Great minds think alike.....:suds: I posted that about 2 weeks ago.

I've been very high on this kid. Look at my comments in 2019 draft thread. I said I'd over value him and take him late 2nd or NE first 3rd round pick? I'd love to see them get him even later but that's up to BB and his value on him and how the run on WRs go.
