NBC Sports Boston ..... Boston Sports Tonight had an hour long discussion last night about the very real possibility of Josh McDaniels being hired by the New York Giants to be the next GM/Head Coach much like Bill Belichick. Nothing is concrete but they sure seemed to have a boatload of information. Guaranteed contract for at least 6 years, total control of the everything from coaching staff to scouts to draft.

Then came the second nuclear missile. Matt Patricia and the Chicago Bears. Apparently John Fox has run out of time and favor. Patricia represents the defensive mind set that they want for the Windy City. Again, long term guaranteed 5 to 7 years and total control.

Belichick can't be the head coach forever, but it just doesn't appear that he's ready to grab his boat and sail into the sunset. If Josh and Matt move on, who are the next men up??

One of them might go and come back when BB is done. I don't see Matty P going anywhere next yr. Both Josh and Matt see the writing on the wall that BB is not going to last more than 5 yrs.

My guess is that BB will promote someone from within the organization.

NBCSB is reporting that Josh McDaniels will be offered the Indiapolis Colts head coach job and that Detroit has already contacted the Patriots about Matt Patricia for their head coaching position. Odds are 90/10 that both will be gone once the Super Bowl is over.

Follow up rumor is that Mike Vrabel will be offered the DC position with the Patriots.

Here's the shocker...............Charlie Weiss may be back as the OC.

I would think Weis would be crazy to get back in the coaching grind at this point with his health issues but who knows.

Doubt HOU will let Vrabel go to NE. I'll stick with my prior predictions for now.

Vrabel is the Texans linebackers coach. How the hell can they stop him from taking a promotion?? Unless they outright offer him the DC job in Texas, he can walk. Even if they do, he can say no and walk.

They promoted Vrabel to DC after last season.

Also IIRC teams can block assistants that are under contract from any move that isn't head coach or assistant head coach (and Pats can't use that to lure Vrabel unless Scar retires).

I can't see Josh going to Indy with that cluster fuck of a front office. No fucking way. He want's Tenn once that job opens up and will wait till it does. Might be next yr.

Now Matty P would be a good fit in Det and he knows the GM over there. Question is, does Matty P want it....IF NE continues to advance and no word out of Det and no hire, we can all assume he took the job...Question is, does he have to shave his beard???

Matt Patricia days as a member of the Patriots appear to be numbered.

According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, New England is bracing for the defensive coordinator to leave the organization for a head coaching gig, likely the Detroit Lions. Patricia has been with the Patriots since 2004 and served as the defensive coordinator since 2012 manning two Super Bowl winning units.

The Lions catching the eye of the 43-year-old isn't all that surprising given his strong relationship with general manger Bob Quinn, who worked for the Patriots before landing Detroit job. Patricia will finish out the season with New England for however long their playoff run goes and then will likely make his future plans official.

If he does in fact leave the Patriots, current linebackers coach Brian Flores appears to be the top in-house favorite to land the defensive coordinator position.

Patricia has interviews scheduled with the Lions, Giants and Cardinals

The Giants should be rooting for the Titans on Saturday if they want to hire Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as their head coach.

The Titans will face the Chiefs in a Wild-Card matchup on Saturday afternoon. If the Titans lose, they could fire coach Mike Mularkey, according to the NFL Network.

McDaniels reportedly would be a top target for the Titans if they fire Mularkey. Tennessee figures to be an appealing destination for McDaniels.

The Titans have gone 9-7 in each of the past two seasons, securing the fifth seed in the AFC this year. They have a potential franchise quarterback, although Marcus Mariota regressed badly in his third season. And McDaniels has strong ties to Titans general manager Jon Robinson, who worked in the Patriots' scouting department from 2002-13.

Those factors could make it an uphill climb for the Giants to land McDaniels, who interviewed with the team on Friday.

Even if McDaniels isn't the Giants' top choice, they should still be rooting for the Titans. The fewer openings the better, especially with McDaniels and some of the Giants' targets in the running for other jobs.

McDaniels and Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur are both candidates for the Bears' head-coaching vacancy. The same goes for McDaniels and Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks for the Colts' opening.

If Matt leaves best of luct to him until he faces NE. Glad he's possibly getting a shot.

Skippy needs to wait on the NE job.

I know there are a lot of “what if’s “. But what if McDaniels and Patricia leave for head coaching jobs and then Coach B decides to leave. What do the Patriots do?? 99% chance he wouldn’t do that to the Patriots....but what if???

Actually he cannot walk. He is their DC right now anyway so it makes this whole thing moot, but unless it is for a HC job a team can block somebody from going from positional coach to Coordinator. Happened to the Broncos a few years back when they wanted Vance Joseph to be their DC and the Bengals blocked him when he was their Secondary coach. So no Vrabel is not coming to the Patriots this year as their DC. He is stuck in Houston.
