on a sidenote, Winston from FSU might be regarded as an Elway type prospect in a year or two. his physical skill is off the charts. it's early, but I can't wait to see him against a topflight defense t get a better idea of how good he might be

I don't want to jinx the kid, but I think he'd be the number one overall pick over Bridgewater and Clowney if he could come out this yr and he's only a freshman. He's completing 75 percent of his passes.

I watched that play live and went nuts. Kid has been amazing. But it's only 4 games and he hasn't played anyone remotely any good yet. Lets wait and let this kid play some actual competition before anointing him the #1 pick.

I'm more excited for Clemson/FSU than any SEC game this year. I get the level of competition arguement, but when a QB is shaking off two defensive linemen, getting hit by a LBer, and throwing a perfect 55 yd bullet to a covered WR downfield, that argument is irrelevant.

No it's not. If those were Bama or LSU Dlineman he is sacked and that never happens. Like I said, kid has been fantastic. No one would take him over Bridgewater or Boyd yet.

That's a good point. He needs to break out of better tackles before he throws a perfect downfield pass flat footed. That skill level is undeniable.

And I never said he wasn't great. But to say that the level of competition doesn't matter is horse shit. There is a reason Armanti Edwards wasn't a top pick as QB even though he made plays like that against lesser competition. Competition absolutely matters. Winston could be a #1 pick in a couple years, but he isn't yet. To say he should be picked over Bridgewater is short sighted. He hasn't played a defense Boston College has the 100th rated defense. Nevada is rated 95th. Sure Pittsburgh is rated 17th but they also gave up 55 points to Duke. The only reason they are 17th is the great game they just had against Virginia.

To be fair, all the draft nerds also declared Suh to be a once-in-a-lifetime prospect...... And he's just a punk with an average impact.

What? He's pretty easily the best in the NFL.

If you're looking purely at stats and W/L record, level of competition is important. You need to put them in a context. But stength in the pocket, arm talent, accuracy etc. I don't think those skills are impacted by who you're playing. I think he's the prototypical NFL skillset for the today's game. Maybe it's a mirage and he'll get exposed by better defenses. I'll admit I'm wrong if it happens.

I don't understand how you can say level of competition doesn't matter. That would be like saying Andy Dalton would be as good against the best defense in the NFL and the worst. Just plain isn't true.

Per PFF:

Suh is 9th in stop % for DT's who have played at least 50% of the snaps - the % of stops a player is responsible for on running plays. Atkins is 33rd.

Suh is 1st in pressure % for DT's who have played 50% of the snaps - the % of plays a DT gets a sack, hit, or hurry relative to how many times they rush the passer. Atkins is 13th.

Last season Atkins was 2nd and Suh was 47th in Stop %.
Last season Atkins was 1st (relatively by far) and Suh 2nd in Pressure %.

Similar story the year before.

You're a homer. Stats don't tell the story for defensive lineman and Suh is clearly better.

I was as much commenting on this year because Atkins has apparently decided to count his money while on the field. However the past 2 years it's hard to argue that Suh is better than Atkins.

2 seasons ago for players who played at least 50% of the snaps, Atkins was ranked 2nd and Suh 23rd for overall defensive play.

Last season, Atkins was ranked 1st (by FAR [very far]) and Suh 4th. Geno had an overall grade of +80, 2nd place was at +31.7 and Suh at 4th was at +22.6.

This season, Suh is ranked 1st and Atkins 27th.

Suh seems to be getting better and Atkins possibly (it's early) going the wrong direction.

Atkins seems to have gone down with money. We will see if things change. Suh is great, I'll never deny that. I'd love to have him here beside Atkins, dirty plays and all.

Atkins looked good today. He was disruptive. Looked like his normal self.

Oh, and Atkins is better than Suh. I used to argue the other way (even at the beginning of last year).... But all available evidence clearly favors Atkins.

Jameis Winston:

19/28 318 yds 3 tds 0 int
24 yds rushing
FSU 35 Maryland 0. 9 mins left in the 3rd quarter
Maryland is undefeated and ranked top 25. The level of competition argument? It's going out the window

Clearly, you don't know what you're talking about. Suh is talented. Atkins is good. Also, Suh's a punk, and I wouldn't have him. No homerism involved. Atkins is a better player.
