well it is really the only move. They free up a roster spot. They were gonna pay him regardless & this is the only way to assure themselves avoiding the injury clause. They werent gonna be able to allow him in the building to trip on the rug & get injured.
The release is good for both him & the Giants.

Agree, or just let him stand behind the first team offense and watch……he’s been nothing but a classy guy…..

I think most of us laughed when he was picked so highly. As an NFC East fan I was happy he had his best year in his contract year, thus forcing the hand of a divisoinal rival.

But I have to believe he was demoted because he must have some kicker in his contract that will force them to pay him if he is injured. But putting him 3rd string they eliminate the need to use him in a game. But I am a bit surprised they didn't do this post June 1 to spread out the cap hit.

I fully believe that Jones owes Vikings DC Ed Donatell 10% of that contract.

In that playoff game Ed's stupid shell defense allowed him to run all over the place and use the only thing that he was good at against the Vikings. They tried to key on Barkley and failed, then dropped 7-8 into coverage and let Jones look like Josh Allen.

So, NFC East, you're welcome.

Regarding the scout team report, the truth is apparently that he ran out and filled the safety spot himself because someone needed to do it. So, kind of sad, but sad because it sounds like he tried to be a team guy to the end and contribute but they basically wanted to put his ass in bubble wrap.

Daniel Jones, at the end of the day, simply wasn't that talented IMO. We're talking about a freaking Duke QB after all. How he ever went so high in the draft is the issue. He had some wheels, and could make some splash plays here and there. But very, very little ability to read a defense or sense a pass rush. Some of the worst instincts I have ever seen.

I know the Giants o-line has sucked, and Saquon who looked nearly washed in NY looks like an MVP contender in Philly. But I don't think Daniel Jones is going to suddenly look great on a new team behind a different o-line. I don't think he is starting material.

I'd say he could do the backup role for a few years and come back like Sam Darnold, except they're the same age. Tougher to make that kind of comeback at 30. But you're right, he just is not all that talented.

I don't think it's necessarily a lack of talent so much. It's more of a case of lack of smarts. He doesn't process well and plays with fear. Guys will be running wide open for days and he either doesn't see it and pats the ball for days until he gets sacked or he hesitates and air mails the thing. When he stops thinking and just lets it loose, he has a ton of athletic ability and can spin the ball really good but that has only happened sparingly.
Of course, he never should have been drafted that high and should have sat behind a veteran and had good coaching but this is a common theme in the NFL these days. Bad coaching and development and reaching in the draft for these kids. Then too much pressure to play them too soon. Now DJ is basically ruined barring something miraculous. I have doubts anybody claims him given the salary implications due to injury and the fact that he likely isn't an upgrade over most current back-ups. Not sure what happens but he would be well served to be a back-up for a team like the Rams with a proven HC and top end starter to learn from.

What exactly was the purpose of signing Drew Lock to be your #2 if you are going to start QB3? What a clusterfuck the New York Football Giants continue to be.

I don't agree that Daniel Jones has talent. His arm strength is clearly below average and it's not like he overcomes this with Drew Brees accuracy. His mobility is good but there are plenty of QBs who have that much mobillty. He does not see the field well and takes far too many sacks and of course there are the turnovers. Guys he just never was going to be a good NFL QB.

With the talk of Rodgers might not finish the season with the Jets that would be awesome if he ends up there.

lol, please let this happen... of course if it does he'll DESTROY Seattle and look like a HOF QB, and then lose every game horribly thereafter. FML.

Yeah I think a lot of fans are hoping Rodgers gets the Daniel Jones treatment. That would be pretty fun to watch this pompous ass get benched, then address the media.

If he isn’t picked up this season, he will be next year’s Russell Wilson. Sign for the vet’s minimum for the opportunity to compete for a starting job.

I agree with all this and am not too excited to entertain the idea of him coming to Seattle. I would be shocked if he doesn’t get signed for at least 40 million a year (with incentives) by a team and I don’t want the Hawks to be the team to do that. Very inconsistent quarterback, who hasn’t shown a lot of improvement over the years in my opinion. Not enough for me to put faith in him being a starting quarterback on my team. I feel like his ceiling is a career back up quarterback in this league…

There’s no way he gets the vet minimum. He’ll get much more than that. He’s only 27 years old. Russell was 35 years old. There will probably be quite a few teams ramping up the price tag as they bid against one another.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Ravens and Vikings are “two of the likeliest teams to land free-agent quarterback Daniel Jones.”
Per Schefter, the recently released quarterback wants to sign with a contender and what happens in Week 12 is expected to influence his decision. Jones could sign with a team out of the postseason hunt and make a few meaningless starts to end the year, but signing with a playoff team may do more to rehab his image in the long-run. Once he clears waivers Monday, Jones will be free to sign wherever he wants. Even after flaming out in New York, the former No. 6 overall pick has the physical tools to be a capable backup for a playoff team, meaning his services will be in reasonably high demand next week.

This guy absolutely delusional

He’s gonna play for an playoff team and expects to play a big role?

He sucked for the worst team in league, showed no signs that it was anyone but his own fault and he’s sayin this? WTF
