Colts bench Richardson, Flacco to start

Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Anthony Richardson will start in Week 11.
Richardson will get the start against the Jets after Joe Flacco fell flat on his face over the past two games, both Colts losses. Flacco over the past two weeks threw two touchdowns to four interceptions and took seven sacks. Richardson, who was benched in October after pulling himself from a game against the Texans for rest purposes, will serve as the team’s starter for the remainder of the year, according to Steichen. Richardson’s return is the end of Josh Downs’ fantasy relevance. Richardson is only startable in superflex formats.

Weird. They are still in the WC hunt.....starting AR may change that in the next few weeks.

Flacco is completing a career high 66.5%, 194.5ypg, 6.9ypa, 9 TD passes, 5 INT's, 91.5 PR

OR

Richardson is completing 44.4%, 159.7ypg, 7.2ypa, 4 TD passes, 7 picks, 57.2 PR

And since he adds a running dimension I have to add 40ypg, 5.9ypa, 1 TD. But, still fewer ypg and less TD's than Flacco. Both have played in 6 games.

Shane Steichen was so positive Flacco gave them the best chance to win when he benched AR a few weeks ago.

Flacco didn't play well and they lost by 10 to the Bills but if AR hard started?

THey would have got blown out, 31-10 or 38-10 most likely.

Would have made so much more sense to wait till the Colts are eliminated and they could be in the next 2 weeks.....and then go to AR for the rest of the season to see what improvement he may have had.

Now, if AR gets hurt (entirely possible with his injury history) in the next few games.....they are trotting a 40yo QB out there in a wasted season and they are eliminated from the postseason.....assuming they lose the next few games with AR. Also entirely possible.

Just strange.

You missed my post on the previous page. I think it’s a huge mistake to go back to Richardson - 2 weeks on the bench won’t magically make him better IMO - he’s not capable of getting them to the playoffs, Flacco is. Don’t know why they are going back to Richardson.

Like I said it has to be Irsay since Steichen was so convinced Flacco was the answer.

yeah once they benched AR. they should have let him marinate the rest of the season learn his craft a bit better & go into the offseason with the idea of giving him the reins.
All I see the colts doing now is ending their season. Then getting a new HC who will take the blame for the failure.
if you follow history. This is what typically happens to the HC when someone other than the HC makes these decisions.

Agreed, that’s what it’s looking like is happening in Indy, Steichen will likely get blamed for this, but it’s not his fault. Richardson shouldn’t be starting, he clearly wasn’t NFL ready when they drafted him and he isn’t a good QB.
