The only difference IMO

Chris Davis was always expected to be very good, Texas was waiting for this, and lost patience

Ortiz and Bautista really was a true rags to riches

I never really followed his career until this year. Always thought of him as some platoon player. Actually first I remember really paying attention to him is when he pitched against he Sox in that 17 inning game last year and shut the Sox down.

Assuming Chris Davis keeps the power going all season, should he start receiving Bautista/Ortiz type scrutiny based on the jump in numbers? Prior to this year, his best was 1 homer in every 15.5 ABs (which was done last year). He's now at about 1/10.

This kinda power was kinda what people were expecting back when he a prospect though..

Don't really care that if he is though...

Wouldn't 216 hits equate to a lotta multi hit games?

For jeter....it equated to a .362 on base %...

he got on base 261 times last year. in 740 plate appearances in 159 games, that means he created 479 outs.

Take Joe Mauer. 174 hits last year...using your thinking? he was far worse than Jeter...

Except...that Mauer walked twice as many times..and therefore, got on base almost the same number of times...264 times...but he did it in 99 fewer plate appearances...and created only 377 outs

Despite having 42 fewer hits...mauer was CONSIDERABLY better than jeter last year...at doing just that...

It's why batting average is flawed.

Don't get me wrong...OBP by itself doesn't paint a great picture of production either. it's why it's coupled with slugging %...because SLG takes in account for quality of the hit, not just the quantity.

notice he didnt mention "no runs"

not sure it was a complete game, though

I can't knock where Girardi has this team

But under no circumstances could Gardner and Hafner be out of the lineup at the same Time right now

Those guys are HOFers compared to what replaces them

Jays. Lester might be the worst starter on the Sox right now if you have Aceves filling the 5th spot. If Webster is in the 5th spot than Lester is second worst.

That is what I was thinking. Trying to decide on my vBookie bets for the night

Who is gonna win the Red Sox/Bluejays game tonight?

It should be a good game unless the jays can get lester out of the game early and get into that bullpen. This is a huge series for the jays because if they win 3-1 or sweep. The AL east will be put on notice.

Ortiz?

No.

Ortiz was also "always expected to be very good" by the Twins...injuries held them back...and the "twins lost patience" and DFA'd him...

Facts...it's what's for breakfast.

Down

I don't wanna continue to argue

But Jeter in what you see as a "compiling" season had virtually the same OBP as Pedroia has averaged in his career

And we know how you feel about Dusty
