I think that ratings for the Winter Classic are super important, so I'm ok with the bigger markets getting their shot.

My only concern is that the Rangers may not be a good enough team to perform in a winter classic.

The southwest really deserves an event like this right now (Imagine LA vs SJ) but its a shame their weather cannot support it.

if they can play a game in vegas in the early 90s i think they can make ice in southern cali in 2012. if not then play the game at a neutral site somewhere in north cali in the mountains? i'm sure there has to be a college stadium they can use

I had a day to think it over and my thoughts are the same. Fuck the NHL, unless both of my girlfriends get tickets (Ones a Rags fan, the other a Flyers fan) I dont care.

I like the teams picked. I said on the main board, they are not trying to appeal to hockey fans here. They know hockey fans will watch. They want the casual fans to watch. For example, if the NBA was trying to showcase a game they would not pick the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Charlotte Bobcats. You go with the teams that casual fans associate with being good or popular.

Now that I've thought about it some more, I think its a very poor idea. Citizen's Bank Park is great as a baseball stadium but I can see it being an issue at a hockey game. Why can't they just plan with the Eagles and use the Linc?

I'm fine with the Flyers being in the WC because it should be showcasing the stronger teams in the league. It should be an honor to get picked rather than be fair and let bad teams in just because they are convenient. That being said, the Rangers are a bunch of grinders, young Dmen, and a good goalie. They are not one of the teams in the NHL that would make a casual fan want to watch.

I'll stay with my opinion that it should be the Sharks and Kings. The Rivalry is covered. The Kings are one of the new young teams that are starting to play great. The NHL can advertize Doughty from the start. It would also cover the large markets by being in LA. Meanwhile, SJ is in the WC finals and are one of the most exciting teams in the league. They also have a chance of winning the cup this year. I think having the defending cup champs in the game will be great for having casual fans watch.

Lmao i agree.I also feel by repeating teams they will lose interest as well.for me this is turning into a great movie with to many sequels.If im starting to feel like this is getting old the casual fan can't be to far behind.if all they are worried about is star power and "strong teams" play the all-star game outdoors.for a league that thrives on parody this is getting pretty stale.

I dont think its the product thats stale, its the use of the same teams over and over
