The Rangers recent Tim Bogar-esque resurgence will be put to the test against a good Diamondbacks club on the road. We will have our two best starting pitchers going in this short series as Eovaldi takes the mound tonight, followed by Bradford tomorrow.

The Diamondbacks, no doubt, are estatic that Corey Seager will not be playing for the Rangers. Hopefully, that means we get to see Ezequiel Duran and Justin Foscue a lot down the stretch.

There is already a lot of excitement for the next series after it was announced that Kumar Rocker will make his big league debut against the Mariners on Thursday. That, along with the anticipated return of Jacob deGrom in that series, will tempt fans to look beyond this short series with Arizona.

One thing to keep an eye on is the standings. The Rangers aren't exactly back in the race, at this point, but they are close enough that should some things break right, and if they put a short streak together, things could get interesting. We are 7.5 games back in the division and 6 games back for the final wild card spot.

From Jeff Wilson:

With the state of the Rangers’ TV situation, money could be at a premium and three starters making the league minimum at a combined $2.28 million might look pretty good when it comes time to balance the budget.

So, Rocker will be making his MLB debut this week. The Rangers want to evaluate him for the 2025 rotation and get him comfortable for a longer stay next season.

Rocker has dominated in the minors. He has earned the opportunity to debut this season and will get a chance to be in the 2025 rotation. Considering some looming financial constraints, he might already be in it.

Congratulations to Thomas Saggese!

From Robert Murray:

Sources: The St. Louis Cardinals are calling up infielder Thomas Saggese. Saggese, the Cardinals’ No. 4 prospect, was acquired by St. Louis from the Rangers in the Jordan Montgomery trade in 2023.

From Bob Nightengale:

Surprisingly, there are only 3 American League teams who have a winning record since Aug. 17 heading into the final stretch of games:
Texas Rangers: 14-6
Detroit Tigers: 13-7
Houston Astros: 11-10.

We need the hot streak to last until the end of the season for there to be any chance of something crazy happening.

From Evan Grant:

The Rangers are somehow now 6 GB in AL wild card race, in 8th place & have a 0.6% chance to that playoff spot.

Just for kicks, among teams ahead of them: They own tiebreakers against KC, Detroit & TB. Seattle (5-1 vs. TEX) is still in play. BAL, MINN, BOS all hold head-to-head tiebreaker over Rangers. Don't get me started on multi-team tiebreakers.

14-4 Rangers
6-13 Astros

Those records are required for ua to pass the Astros for the division.

If the Rangers do go 14-4 they would have to have the Twins would have to go 7-11 to pass them. The teams in between could go no better than 10-8.

Those are very unlikely scenarios, but let the next 6 games go a certain way and all of a sudden things would look different.

Yeah, it's not a likely scenario. At this point it is about evaluating the young cats and building towards a better 2025.
Obviously the young pitchers have been getting most of our attention, but it would be encouraging to see some young hitters show some life, like Duran and Foscue. With the budget being what it is and the uncertainty of the TV broadcasting situation, a lot of the improvements (other than bullpen) will have to come in-house.

If the pitchers were relegated to pitch once every week to 10 days to throw an inning in relief, they would struggle like Fiscue and Duran. Reminds me of how we used Ragans.

For sure. Which is why both Foscue and Duran should be given consistent playing time. Don't know that it'll happen - but it should.
If it were my call, I'd have both in the lineup every game to finish out the season.

Crim should be up here, to see what he can do.

Izack Tiger has undergone hybrid elbow reconstruction surgery and will miss most of 2025.

The secretive Rangers didn't tell us until after the surgery.

I would really like to know the real story behind Alejandro Rosario's last two weeks.

First it was announced he had been promoted to Frisco.

Then he was scheduled to pitch this past Saturday for Frisco.

Then, he missed his start for Frisco.

Then Evam Grant reported that Rosario wasn't injured but was very tired from traveling, and that is why he missed his start.

Now today, I read that he was placed on the Development List.

Typical Bochy. Fabian plays part of one game and you don’t see him again. Is refusal to play young players is why I’m hoping he’s not back next year.
Point well made.
