I don't know why they wouldn't try to get a lot for him. Every other team in the league I'd say he is untouchable. But I think the White Sox might be in worse shape than any team in the league. At least Houston has young guys and young guys that are getting some playing time. Miami same thing, they have some young talent. But the White Sox have nothing going for them in any way at all. They have a terrible farm system and their players on the active roster are mostly old or bad contracts, no one has value expect Sale to bring back a lot of young talent. Usually you build around a guy like Sale, but the White Sox have too much to build.

Maybe you are right, but it seems to me that a team in rebuilding mode might want to hold onto a young, promising piece that is not clearly replaceable. Not saying that Sale is a young, left-handed Kinf Felix, but holding onto Sale might be analogous to the M's having held onto Hernandez the past few years, while letting a guy like Cliff Lee get away.

I think they will hold on to him, I was trying to say they are one of the only teams in the league that it might be wise to try to get a lot of pieces for him. Because as they sit right now, they have nothing in their farm system to build off of, they have no current players on their roster that will bring pieces in. You have to have something in your farm system, or a piece or 2 on your roster to bring some young talent in. So unless they plan on spending a boat load of money on FA's somehow, they are in terrible shape moving forward

But take a look at the M's, before King Felix signed his contract extension, he was the talk of trade rumors every year and they just held onto him. Now, it is taking them forever to rebuild, they haven't had a good team since that 2001 season with Brett "roid" Boone. If they would have just sucked it up and traded Felix they would have gotten a huge haul for him and maybe they would be more competitive right now.....seems like a similar situation with the White Sox, their farm is horrible and if they just bite the bullet in trading Sale so that their rebuilding can move faster.

The M's were actually in a lot better shape tho. While Felix has logged a lot of innings he is still only 27 and the M's have some talent and one of the best farm systems in the league. They are trending up right now. The White Sox have no where to go but down at the moment

yes, I agree they are trending up NOW, but its been 12 years since they have had a competitive team. Thats a long time to be rebuilding. What I am saying is that if they would have traded Felix sooner, they would have been in this position of trending upward earlier and might even have been a playoff contender at this point now.....the White Sox are in an even worse position than the M's so what is going to get them back to competing again? They need to build up their very weak farm system and really the only trade chip they have to do that is Sale. They could get 2 ML ready players plus a couple solid specs for him and it would really kickstart their rebuilding process. It is going to take them years to be competitive again and while its a good thought to rebuild around Sale, he more than likely wont be the same ace he is now when they finally are competing again which is why it would be more beneficial as a franchise to get a large haul for him soon.

I don't consider Sale one of the true aces in baseball.

I see Sale being talked about here and on other ranger fan boards a lot is he really available? Also Jeff samardzija is a guy I think the rangers should be interested in

Neither have been reported to be available. And I guarantee samardzjia isn't available.

Guess it depends on one's definition of a "true ace". I think that the list of pitchers around his age (24 years old) who have pitched like he has for the past year and a half, though, is very short.

Samardzjia could probably help, but I consider him more risky than Garza. Both guys are considerably below Sale, in my opinion.

because he hasn't pitched enough innings yet or what? Surely you aren't talking about his ability?

I'd say he has the ability to be one, but he's been a starter for a year and a half and wore down in the second half last year. He needs to be around longer and stay dominant to be one of the aces of the league.

And I don't want to give up what it would cost to get him and then have his elbow explode while he's on our staff either.

Also, Samardzija or however the balls you spell his name is great. He hasn't even hit his ceiling yet. Getting better and learning how to pitch more every year. Would love to have him. He's gott be the cubbies most expensive player though. It would take pretty much the farm to get him I imagine
