I've felt all along they were waiting for the all star break to be over and then would start handing out suspensions.

Sure. It's all about $$$$

No way you can predict that Kinsler wouldn't be "just another guy" in LF either. Better power numbers, yes, but you never know how the defensive transition will work out.

True, but Kinsler won't be playing for another 10 years like Profar will. So moving him now doesn't mean you are decreasing his value for the rest of his career. Make sense? It's kind of convoluted, I'll admit. Hard for me to explain my feeling on it.

And Elvis's number aren't there as an everyday SS. If this long term deal and the money they gave Andrus, which I think and thought at the time was a mistake, causes us to move Profar to another team it will be mistake #2 in my opinion. I like Elvis an awful lot but there is no way I would have paid him 15 million a year to play defense.

I like Elvis a lot as well. Wish we could move Elvis to 2B. Even at 2B though, Profar becomes much more valuable. I think in LF he is going to be worthless. I need power at the corners for my OF. So I'd offer Profar for Stanton one more time and see what else Miami wants thrown in.

Yup, and if they did it before then for 4 straight days we would have stories about PED issues in baseball. Gotta clear the big news cycle when nothing else is going on before handing out penalties.

You have to figure that the union lawyers will be on this like white on rice, especially considering that a guy like Nellie hasn't failed a drug test...that we know of. There will probably be an appeals process and no telling how long that will last.

Why would you move Elvis to 2B? Profar doesn't project to be a better defender at SS than Elvis

There's no guarantee that Profar doesn't hit for power, he has the ability, he's just a 20 year old kid going through some growing pains, that's all, people need to start tempering their expectations just a tad

As much as Stanton has been hurt by the age of 23; knee, hamstring, shoulder, I don't know why anyone would want to offer a huge package for him, he can be somebody else's problem for all I care

"Stanton's injury history is becoming more and more checkered. In each of two spring trainings before the 2013 one, Stanton missed about half of spring training with nagging injuries, and subsequently he came out cold to start the season in each of those years. Last year, he sat out a total of 41 days, including 30 days following a surgery to remove foreign bodies in his right knee. Now this season he has missed time with two separate injuries; earlier in the year, he missed about a week's worth of games with a sore left shoulder thanks to a diving play on a ball, and now he suffers another injury on a non-contact situation."

And I know at one point his rehab for the hamstring was delayed b/c his knees were too sore

I work around a Texas Rangers scout, but still dont quote me on this. But I was told today that unless anything happens last minute with another team, the rangers are likely to get garza as soon as this week. Don't know any specifics, although I would assume olt is involved. But this is something he told me that the rangers have been pushing for the last couple of weeks, and their offer has been on the table for a while. The cubs wanted to wait until the all star break to see if anyone would match it as his stock kept rising. I'm guessing no one has, and now that its the all star break, he told me he thinks its gonna get done. He threw a 75% sure at the end too.

Great news!

While the Rangers are clear favorites, the source warns that "you never know who might jump in late" and acquire Garza at the last minute. If the interest is serious enough, teams like the Red Sox, Indians, Blue Jays and Cardinals may increase their offers to snag Garza before the Rangers do.

This fits you're story a little bit

I am not sure Ian is a $15mil a year type COF, especially to move positions at this point in his career. Maybe so. Just don't want to wreck another lifetime Ranger's career by moving their position around like they did with MY. Even though Ian turned into an upgrade at 2B, its still a questionable move to unseat an all star for a prospect.

I think you're likely right in that if we keep Profar Ian ends up in LF. I'm just not a fan of that move.

Honestly I'm not a fan of trading profar but if Elvis is you're shortstop the next 8 years then its probably best that you trade him. He just doesn't have as good of value in the outfield. I mean unless you wanna move kinsler?

Kinsler nor Profar need to be in the outfield. Therefore, a trade seems the thing to do. But who?:noidea:

The baseball players’ association says any suspensions resulting from the sport’s latest drug investigation likely won’t be served until next year if the discipline is challenged before an arbitrator.

Rangers 2nd half

I wouldn't trade Profar/Olt types for Lee. He's too old to be trying to win for just one season, and his salary is outrageous. Murphy hit around .400 for his last 9/10 games, so maybe he's coming out of it. I feel your frustration regarding his season though. But surely Crawford isn't the answer. Honestly, I wonder with this team and the way it's been snake-bitten in the first half, if another arm/LF is going to be enough.

1. Olt for Lee? You bet. Course, Philly has to eat a large chunk of that salary.
2. Who mentioned anything about Crawford?

3. I'd rather move Olt for Lee over Garza.....but that is based strictly on Garza being a "rental".

A good starting pitcher and a good bat in lf should put us over the hump.

Tomorrow when the facebook comments requirement transforms ESPNDallas into a ghost town many of us are migrating over to the Dallas Morning News site. It is a much better site than this one.

Texas Rangers likely to have All-Star OF Cruz for entire season | Texas Rangers Blog

The only requirement there is that you log in using either your Yahoo, Twitter, Linkedin, Windows Live, Google or Facebook login. They use those logins, but your comments aren't tied to those accounts. It is a good site. I used it for years before they tried the same facebook comments rrequirement that ESPN is about to use. The DMN blog decided a couple of months ago that they would stop using the Facebook comments requirements because they quit getting very many commnents. It is much easier to use than the sportshoopla site....

How is it on game time situations, Bennie? Like when Friday comes around at 7, will there be an article we can attach to?

What's the Big deal about a Garza being a Rental? Lee was a rental, Dempster was a rental
Rangers paid ( 2 years ago, Name escapes me , rehabing pitcher ) $3 million and he Never pitch a inning.
If Garza can fill a need, no reason he couldn't reup with Rangers.
Remember Rangers offered Lee More money and he still went to Philly.

With all the predomlnately RH Power pitchers in the AL, a LH Power bat would be OK in RBIA short porch or Beckman can recover and DH or Manny can find the fountian of youth, hope, a hope.
Ho'lota hoping going on

It all depends on what garza costs as a rental. One reason there's more emphasis on him being a rental is the rule mlb implemented two years ago that no longer awards teams a first round compensation pick if their A type rental player walks in the winter. Dempster didn't really cost much so it wasn't a big deal. They're talking about Olt being involved for garza. Big difference.
