I work around a Texas Rangers scout, but still dont quote me on this. But I was told today that unless anything happens last minute with another team, the rangers are likely to get garza as soon as this week. Don't know any specifics, although I would assume olt is involved. But this is something he told me that the rangers have been pushing for the last couple of weeks, and their offer has been on the table for a while. The cubs wanted to wait until the all star break to see if anyone would match it as his stock kept rising. I'm guessing no one has, and now that its the all star break, he told me he thinks its gonna get done. He threw a 75% sure at the end too.

Great news!

Like you said, take it with a grain of salt but reports are indicative that there's a pretty good chance garza gets traded before his next start.

Where do the reports say this? I'm interested to see if there are any similarities with what I was told this morning from what the media is saying

Well, there really wasn't that much said there besides the fact that it said he was gonna get traded this week in all likelihood. But from what I hear, unless one team swoops in last second, hes ours to lose.

4 days is a long time right now. The only thing I keep thinking is the relationship JD has established with Epstein. JD went a long way to lay some good will with him. You have to wonder if JD gave him a fair package and Epstein is returning the good will by not trying to pit JD against other gm's and take it down to the wire. JD made it pretty clear he doesn't play that game with towers this winter.

All that said, that is probably just a pile of nonsense I've concocted in my own mind. But what the hell, that's what this thread is for.

its exciting because this is as good or better as garza has been in his whole career so far. Maybe if we get him and feel that we have a good shot at resigning him we can trade one of our other pitchers that are supposed to be in the rotation next year?

Who would you trade? Certainly not Feliz, Holland, Perez, Harrison, Darvish, Ogando. I'm not convinced I'd want garza on a longer term deal anyways.

That said, if Olt is included I can't imagine much else being included.

I'm bracing myself for either response. We get him or some team swoops down at the last minute. Just hope this the right course of action.

That's what I'm saying. 4 days is a long time to hope another team swoop in. Assuming what terps says is true that is.

Ya but I wasn't necessarily told 4 days, I was simply told this week. Could be any day.

Promise you guys this is what I was told, but if I'm wrong I'll probably look pretty dumb! A last second team has swooped in before, but he sounded pretty confident to me!

Well, garza's next start could come this Saturday at the earliest. That's all I'm saying.

I really wouldnt think it would be bad blood. I would love him here again

Why are people saying there's "bad blood" between Cliff Lee and the Rangers? From everything I always heard, he enjoyed Texas but just wanted to play somewhere else (i.e. he and his wife REALLY liked Philly). I've also heard that he didn't want to have the pressure of being the Rangers "Ace;" in Philly he's one of several solid pitchers. But with the appearance of Darvish in Arlington he may not necessarily have that weight on his shoulders. Especially if Holland and Harrison continue to come along. Now, whether or not his wife liked it here is something totally different.

Partly came from some comments heade about how we handled Michael Young this year. He's getting to see first hand how much good all that leadership does.

I'm sure you are right on this and no one can blame you on what another team does. I just worry on what we would give up and our chances on getting a bat.

JD won't mortgage the future for a rental. You can bet on that.

I will say this about JD of late. We can all say whatever we want about some questionable decisions he has made, but he is more than always right. So from this point forward, whatever JD does, I will let play out and not make too much of. Example, not signing josh hamilton worked out great. Justin Upton is doing horrible right now, and we wouldve had to trade our whole farm for him. Darvish has worked out great so far. Our farm system is loaded. Manny Ramirez signing, although early, was out of the blue and looks to be a low risk high reward situation. I could go on. In other words, whether we go get garza or if another team swoops in and JD doesnt wanna top it, or if we decide to not get a bat and play it out this season, I'm gonna save my opinions until after I've seen the results of his actions. I feel like he's earned that us

I can't imagine Cliff Lee not wanting to come back to Texas based on Michael Young. This isn't his first rodeo; as a veteran he surely knew that MY's time in Arlington had come to an end. Either way, it's all conjecture at this point since last time I heard, Philly wouldn't say with any conviction whether or not Lee is even a trade possibility.

I'm gonna miss Mike Olt though. Even if we don't get garza, I don't see any way of him staying with us. He's movin somewhere. He just got old faster than anyone expected. Sorry, I don't care how good you are, if you're 25 and hitting in AAA without hardly seeing any big league time yet Im perfectly fine with seeing you go.
