I can't imagine Cliff Lee not wanting to come back to Texas based on Michael Young. This isn't his first rodeo; as a veteran he surely knew that MY's time in Arlington had come to an end. Either way, it's all conjecture at this point since last time I heard, Philly wouldn't say with any conviction whether or not Lee is even a trade possibility.
It's amazing, Philly is at .500 and still believe they have a chance. And next year as well. Lee is 35 and this year maybe is the last time anyone would want him. And they will be still no closer to the playoffs.

Partly came from some comments heade about how we handled Michael Young this year. He's getting to see first hand how much good all that leadership does.

I'm gonna miss Mike Olt though. Even if we don't get garza, I don't see any way of him staying with us. He's movin somewhere. He just got old faster than anyone expected. Sorry, I don't care how good you are, if you're 25 and hitting in AAA without hardly seeing any big league time yet Im perfectly fine with seeing you go.

Agreed. If the Club really likes you than they'll find a way to keep you on the roster. Until that happens you're just another prospect. Case in point = Profar.

I will say this about JD of late. We can all say whatever we want about some questionable decisions he has made, but he is more than always right. So from this point forward, whatever JD does, I will let play out and not make too much of. Example, not signing josh hamilton worked out great. Justin Upton is doing horrible right now, and we wouldve had to trade our whole farm for him. Darvish has worked out great so far. Our farm system is loaded. Manny Ramirez signing, although early, was out of the blue and looks to be a low risk high reward situation. I could go on. In other words, whether we go get garza or if another team swoops in and JD doesnt wanna top it, or if we decide to not get a bat and play it out this season, I'm gonna save my opinions until after I've seen the results of his actions. I feel like he's earned that us

You got that right.

It's pure conjecture on my part, but I wonder if Philly is balking at the fact that they'll probably have to pay part of Cliff Lee's salary in order to move him. If that's the case than they may be figuring why not just hold onto him.

The phillies are at the point where they gotta reconstruct their team. Howard and utley both get hurt every year, all of their good pitchers are old or getting there. Really the only good young player they have is dominic brown. I know they have good prospects too, but they're at the point where they gotta trade MY, cliff, and SHOULD trade jimmy rollins too. Get as many prospects as you can while you still can. They might have to eat salary off these players, but its the price they gotta pay. Hell, even trade cole hamels. If you eat some of his salary you could get almost anyone you wanted, even on an off year.

I'd go with this.

Kinsler
Martin
Cruz (why move him? Dude is raking)
Beltre
Cuddyer
Ramirez
Moreland
AJ
Andrus.

I think either way it would be go with the hot bat, yes Cruz is raking now but as baseball goes he will eventually cool off and we could move the next hot bat to the 3 hole. If somehow this scenario came about we could have flexibility and a deeper bench w Baker coming back and Gentry to sub as speed on the bases and a defensive replacement. Should definately be able to contend with this

suspensions could likely be handed down but I dont see players serving those suspensions without extensive arbitration therefore likely after the season. There has been talk of guys possibly taking plea deals for their suspensions and if MLB was to offer say Cruz who has not failed a test a 20 game suspension to cooperate, I'm not sure he shouldn't just take it and move on

Ya it is definitely best for him to take it. No team is gonna want to sign him this offseason if he hasnt served his suspension yet.

Ok, I've got a purely hypothetical question for you all (and I stress the word hypothetical because the chances of this happening are slim to none).

Assume that the Rangers do acquire Matt Garza and that every single injured Rangers pitcher returns 100% healthy and 100% effective by mid-September. How do you rank these pitchers, and which 5 would make up the stretch-run rotation and which 4 would be the playoff rotation?:

Darvish
Holland
Garza
Lewis
Ogando
Harrison
Feliz
Perez

I would have Darvish, Holland, Garza, Harrison, and Lewis as my stretch-run rotation with Lewis getting the nod over Harrison as the 4th playoff starter due to his incredible bulldog playoff performances of the past. I would put Feliz, Ogando, and Perez in the pen and remove Wolf, Lindblom, and Burns.

Even without a trade for Garza, if this team could ever get totally healthy all at once (wishful thinking), a rotation of Darvish-Holland-Harrison-Ogando-Lewis and a bullpen of Perez-Frasor-Cotts-Feliz-Soria-Ross-Scheppers-Nathan is just downright filthy.

So I agree

That last paragraph I would have to swap Perez and Ogando because I think for Perez that starting fits Perez better and he would be more successful in that role than in the pen and Ogando has been in the pen before and could handle it better than Perez.

I've felt all along they were waiting for the all star break to be over and then would start handing out suspensions.

Anyone else looking at Profar and thinking "he was the top prospect at SS, but as CIF he is just another guy"? I think either we have to move Kinsler to LF or trade Profar while he has value. I know he is young, but if Elvis is going to block him at SS...his numbers just aren't there for a CIF power guy.

So if a guy is drafted out of college at 22 years and is at AAA after three years you pull the plug on him?
Nellie Cruz spent time at AAA in his late 20's after clearing waivers the last time he was sent down because he couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag and went on to be named ALCS MVP. Then there's that guy playing 1st base at Baltimore.

No way you can predict that Kinsler wouldn't be "just another guy" in LF either. Better power numbers, yes, but you never know how the defensive transition will work out.

And Elvis's number aren't there as an everyday SS. If this long term deal and the money they gave Andrus, which I think and thought at the time was a mistake, causes us to move Profar to another team it will be mistake #2 in my opinion. I like Elvis an awful lot but there is no way I would have paid him 15 million a year to play defense.
