David Griffin - "we'd like to offer you Zion for Herro"
Riley - "nah...we're good, but thanks"

I do get the excitement, but few players in any sport are truly untouchable.

Pretty extreme example.
I could see Herro being serious ROY candidate though.

Don't understand how he wasn't selected earlier after the March he had at Purdue
And to remind everyone... Edwards is a Celtic because the C's swindled Philadelphia out of a pick this past draft.

Thybulle has looked AWESOME so far in preseason. He has something like 13 steals in 3 games. And about 8 blocks.

Pretty clear really.

His skill set is awesome.

But he is a 5’11” 2 guard.

I am not saying teams might not regret passing on him, but that is why he fell so far. Teams are worried about the defensive end.

Not saying Thybulle is a bad pick.

Just that Philly got swindled out of a separate pick because (reportedly) everyone knew they were enamored with the guy... Boston used that fact to their advantage and here we are.

Edwards took 15 3 point shots in 20 minutes. He was clearly on.

I agree that if he shoots 60% from 3 he will be a huge pick!
He's a microwave scorer. Vinnie Johnson with a shot.

The Sixers had something like 5 picks in this draft and they came away with 2 picks. They weren't looking for more rookies. They wanted Thybulle. I honestly don't know if the Sixers telegraphed their interest in Thybulle or not. Ainge did good work to leverage the Celtics position. But Ainge maximizing his position doesn't necessarily mean that the Sixers shouldn't have made the trade. Right or wrong, they saw Thybulle as an immediate impact player that could help them win a title this year. Maybe they are wrong but if they really believe that then making that trade makes complete sense.

Several Sixer beat writers were highly critical of the moves the Sixers made to get Thybulle. And nearly all of them are acting a little sheepish right now.

I haven't watched him play at all. Does he play defense?
As @tlance said... Carsen Edwards is always gonna have limitations defensively because of his height. It is what it is.

That said: Edwards is a hustler who gives all-out effort. He is also well built for his height, and has relatively long arms compared to his size. So there is hope he won't be a total "Isaiah Thomas" type mark on defense.

But yeah, he's always gonna be a mark at his height.

Fair enough. The Sixers are apparently allergic to short guys.

The overall team length of the 76ers is gonna be deadly on the defensive end. Once Philly has their half court D set up, the opposition is gonna face a forest of length and arms and toughness.

Only two ways to beat the Philly D, as I see it:
  • Get out in transition and beat them down the floor before their defense has time to get set.
  • Shoot lights out from 3 point range.
Both of those are fickle strategies, though... the first depends on Philly turning the ball over and/or missing shots... the second is hard to depend on game in and game out in something like a 7 game series.

The Celtics are sitting Kemba, Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Kanter, and Theis tonight... they're playing their 'B' and 'C' team.

Cleveland is playing their 'A' team.

The Cav's are down double digits at the half. :pound:

This Cleveland team just might be fighting Charlotte for worst record in the NBA.
Maybe (we can hope), but A team? TT, Henson and Zizic all sat out (top 3 centers). Love done before half. Knight also was held out.

Would add maybe slow the roll on Edwards, though I do like him a lot. A reminder I seem to recall Robert williams being a brilliant pick last year and last night in a blowout he managed a -6 in 3 minutes. At least he didn't get lost, though, or oversleep. So he's got that going for him.

Actually, he might have...I can't back that.

You don't want to put too much stock into preseason numbers. But given that Thybulle's stock numbers were record setting in college it is certainly encouraging to see him put up such huge numbers in his limited time in preseason.

Looks like he has cemented himself as the 1st wing off the bench.
