Oh but congrats to Harper on another home run even if it is totally and completely irrelevant and unimportant. Real neat

You dont. You use stats to qualify a great year. You just can't sign value to it because the season itself has no value. You can be a great player on a bad team. You just can't be the MVP
If you don't use stats, then what do you do?

Another Cubs win in a huge game and another Rizzo game winning rbi. Ho hum. Typical night.

Meanwhile, due to Rizzo's sub-par playing in September, he's a day or two away from dropping below McCutchen statistically.

Clearly what you do is pick the best player on a 3rd place team and go with it. Don't forget to ignore the handful of NL players having better seasons.

I used stats earlier to CLEARLY show that Harper has been terrible in games vs good teams. The same stats show Rizzo to be outstanding. All of you then back pedaled and claimed every game is the same which we ALL know is a crock of shit. Harper has done his damage vs bad teams in irrelevant gamea. That's FACT. If you guys want to reward him for that then that's your prerogative.

The MLB is now weighting games differently in the standings? When the hell did that happen?!

It's most likely going to be the Writers Association's prerogative, too. They tend to reward historically significant seasons by players even if their teams don't make the playoffs.

So you only like the numbers that fit your points. The rest are for "stat nerds." Got it. :thumb:

vs teams .500+

Harper - .288 AVG, .985 OPS, 13 HR
Rizzo - .325 AVG, 1.002 OPS, 14 HR

If Harper's "terrible" in those games, then Rizzo is pretty bad himself.

Vs non playoff team the Nats are 13 over .500 and Harper is hitting nearly .350. Vs playoff teams the Nats are 8 under .500 and Harper is hitting .269.... not clutch. Not important. Irrelevant. Vs non playoff teams Cubs are 15 over .500 and Rizzo is hitting .257. Vs playoff teams Cubs are 8 over .500 and Rizzo is hitting .321 with 9 game winning rbi in just those games. That's the difference in the 2 teams. One is led by a guy who balls in big games and the other is led by a guy who bails in big games.

Above .500 isn't playoff teams

So if a team is 1-2 games out of a playoff spot right now, Rizzo/Harper's stats vs them aren't important?

There isn't an above .500 team Harper has played against this year that is 1 or 2 gamea out of a playoff spot. Not one.

Harper also has the luxury of playing in the worst division in baseball while Rizzo plays in by far the best
