Nebraska lost it's AAU status because AAU changed it rules that everything had to be located on campus. University of Nebraska Med Center (UNMC) is located in Omaha, not in Lincoln. Not sure why UNL did it that way years ago, but it ended up biting them in the ass.

Is Nebraska doing anything to try to get back into the AAU?

I assume they're lobbying to get the rule changed back to include UNMC.
Moving UNMC to campus in Lincoln would be unfeasible. They'd have to buy 2-3 square blocks of land for the buildings.
This pic doesn't show all of them.

The status they lost was on the medical research side.

Per the OP:

OU belongs in the B1G and Texas belongs in the PAC. Anymore SEC champs wanna comment?

TCU and Baylor to the SEC! SEC! SEC!

Not sure if Nebraska is trying. They are letting actions speak for themselves.

Main criteria is NSF research dollars, and supposedly the AAU looks at what you are doing and compares to current members.

AAU revised their membership conditions in 2010, after that Nebraska and Syracuse were booted. Syracuse MED school was on a separate charter like Nebraska's, which meant their research dollars fell under their charter. Syracuse sold their med school to SUNY I believe.

Membership Policy | Association of American Universities

You be the judge

main criteria is NSF research dollars.

Nebraska 302,204,000

Of the 60 US AAU members U of N has more in research dollars than eight of them, probably another one I might have missed.

Current AAU members

Kansas 300,319,000
Stony Brook 238,612,000
UC Santa Barbara 238,246,000
Brown 212,290,000
Tulane 180,993,000
Rice 167,277,000
Oregon 95,974,000
Brandeis 68,437,000

Since being booted, and joining the B1G Nebraska's research dollars have increased 50%, approx going from $200,000,000 to $300,000,000. Nebraska is one of the few schools that has raised their NSF dollars every year for the last decade.

BTW, some schools in AAU are only there because of their contacts and the influence that their major donors have. Two schools on that list above should jump out at you that fit into what I said, Brandeis and Oregon.

Forgot to add, due to the back room politics involved with the egos involved in the AAU, the chance that the AAU asks Nebraska to re-join are low.

There would be too much egg on some of the faces that pulled the back room decisions. Maybe in another 30 years, if Nebraska can continue to raise their research profile. Due to Nebraska's geographical location, the chance of that happening is low. I doubt Nebraska will ever crack the top 50 is NSF research dollars.

So, being that UNMC is in Omaha, is it considered to be a part of Nebraska-Omaha? If so, that would be reason enough for it not to count as part of UNL's research facilities.

TCU and Baylor don't bring appreciable amounts of new viewership like Texas or Oklahoma would. And, besides, Baylor is tainted material right now.

Oklahoma is more of a cultural fit in the SEC than in the Big 10+4; but there doesn't seem to be any big push for realignment right now, anyway.

No. It belongs to UNL.

Even if Baylor wasn't toxic, there is no fit there. Non-flagship universities, with small stadiums, no national draw.

If I had to guess, if SEC wanted to go to 16, it would be OU and OSU. Move Mizzou to the West, AU and UA to the east, done.

Arky should stay in the West. More natural fit with OU, Okie lite, Mizzou, A&M, & LSU

As I used it, AU and UA are Auburn and Alabama. They would move to the East. Mizzou to the West, OU and OSU to the West.

If you've got Oklahoma, you don't need Oklahoma St. You could just stay at 15 teams with 3 5-team divisions for certain sports like football. Arkansas, LSU, Missouri, Oklahoma & Texas A&M in the West; Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss & Miss. St. in the Central; and, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee & Vandy in the East.

Each team would play the other four teams in its own division, plus one permanent & one rotating team from each of the other two divisions. The top two division winners would meet in the SEC Championship Game.

If you want OU, you have to take OSU ... they are a package deal. The Oklahoma legislature ain't letting it happen any other way.

So I've heard. But it hasn't always been that way. Oklahoma left the Southwest Conference before Oklahoma A&M (the school's old name); and later left the Missouri Valley for the Big Six (which eventually became the Big 8 after Oklahoma St. & Colorado later joined. The only time they moved together was when the Big 12 was formed.

Oklahoma's new Governor (Kevin Stitt) is a graduate from Silo Tech so you reckon he'd make sure little brother got to tag along wherever OU wanted to go? The guy looks like Karl Childers.

It’s not just the governor that decides federal funding numbnuts. Your state isn’t run by a dictatorship.
