Well, I support the idea, I just think it has a snowball's chance in hell of actually happening.
A big snow ball but the idea is nice

Why is that? Even his agent is hinting at having over-estimated his market. There are no 4-year deals to be had because all of his available suitors (teams with a 1B need and the $$ to spend) have moved on. Multiple reporters, including Jayson Stark on ESPN just today, are saying that EE's best bet right now is to take a high-dollar 1-year bridge deal now and then try again next offseason with no qualifying offer attached to him.

No, his best bet right now is to wait and see. If this was approaching the end of January, that's a different story.

Love the idea. Maybe he can be this years Nelson Cruz.
I love the idea too. It's too perfect not to happen. The Rangers get an elite power bat for one season. They also get one more season to see if Joey Gallo improves and could possibly ever be their 1B of the future. They either: a) have a mediocre season and then flip EE for a solid prospect or two at the deadline, b) have a great season with another playoff appearance and then let EE walk, or C) enjoy a great season and like EE so much they re-sign him for 3-4 more years.

I wasn't saying that this could happen today or that reporters are saying EE has to act today. But that is the way it is looking for him as of right now. He can wait and see, but there is a very real possibility that it ends up being his best option by the end of the offseason.

You said ESPN is "reporting" what his best move is right now. I'm saying I disagree.

Jesus, Odor is a bad 2nd baseman. He's a younger version of Soriano IMO.

Why are you acting like it would be some kind of sin moving him to LF and putting a much steadier pair of hands at 2nd, i.e. Profar?

This accomplishes several things - better INF D, increased value of Profar - and fills a more desirable role for Profar, and does it internally on the cheap as well.
I'm not saying it would be some kind of sin just that Odo7is only 21 and should get better at the 2nd base position with time and moving him doesn't make sense to me

You're getting caught up in semantics to argue a point. Obviously EE isn't going to just give up on getting a good offer the day after the Winter Meetings. Nobody is saying that. They're just saying that as of right now it's looking more and more likely that is what will end up being his best bet.

Again, I am saying I disagree with that point. No semantics, I'm saying that it's ignorant to suggest that a 1 year deal will be his best bet. I got there on my own, but given that ESPN is saying it just confirms my opinion.

My comment also included Cobb and Martinez as well as EE. Suddenly those two have been dropped in the discussion. Yes it would be a nice plan but all three falling in place just isn't likely. Maybe EE and that does seem very possible but not all three. If it does than the big snow ball melted.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out. Normally I would agree with you regarding ESPN and their terrible journalistic standards. But Jayson Stark is one of the few left at that network who is both well-connected and knowledgeable. I hope he's right in this case.

Odor turns 23 in February.
Okay my bad but has Profar proven he can stay healthy. Last year was basically the first time we have had him around for a second. I think Odor is the best 2nd baseman on the team and the least candidate to play the outfield on the team. How about Profar as the LF'er starting spring training. He has the size, speed and bathrooms to be the starting LF'er

In his first 3 years with us his error totals have gone from 9 to 17 to 22 and he'll be 23 before next season begins. Doesn't appear he's getting better, and he's lead the league for 2nd baseman errors the last 2 seasons.

Profar would be a better fit, especially since we aren't exactly stellar at SS. And putting Odor in LF would solve a position of need and cheaply. Money can be invested elsewhere.

Just heard Bannister talking about Profar/Ruan being the answer at 1st base if they don't address it thru trade or FA. Nothing about moving Odor

Not disagreeing just don't see the Rangers making this move

FWIW I think Odor can improve his game at 2B.

Well, let's all hope he isn't going to get worse, in spite of the early evidence.

Look, I don't hate Odor. Fact is, I like the guy. But our infield defense sucks and he's part of the sucking. And next year, it's gonna get worse due to Beltre getting a year older (surely he can't just keep doing this, can he?) and having a top flight 1st baseman going to Boston.

I'm pretty much on an island in wanting to move Odor to the OF. But it's that time of year for mere "speculations" and perhaps some nonsense.

Hey, we're just talking here, right?
