Too little too late to catch the Vikings.

Good:
- Love seemed to knock off the rust some in 2nd half.
- Reed another great game catching the ball... 139 yards and a TD.
- Packers mounting a comeback... was too big of a whole though.
- 2nd half adjustments for defense... Vikes 3 points in 2nd half.
- McKinney another interception... if he gets 1-2 next week going to start thinking about single season record (14).
- Although quiet on the pass rush... Gary did have some big run stops to his credit.
- GB OL only 1 penalty today (Jenkins false start). Also thought they played well vs tough Vikes DL that was leading league in sacks.
- Melton and Cooper both great scoops on fumbles to recover footballs rather cleanly.

Bad:
- Love very rusty in 1st half... throws low, behind and 3 interceptions... interception looking at Watson there was nothing there... unsure what was thinking throwing long ball downfiled.
- Pass rush... other than Titans game has not been good.
- Alexander... another game sitting on the sideline.
- McDuffie dropped interception and 3rd and 14 conversion on Vikes 1st offensive series... have to get the stops when opprotunities are there.
- Kraft big holding penalty and big fumble... really like him, but other than TD not one of his better games.
- Injuries to Watson and Wyatt... hopefully not long term.
- Packers 4 of 12 on 3rd downs and 0 for 2 on 4th downs.

Ugly:
- 28-0 early hole to try and mount a comeback.
- Narveson... I honestly do not expect him to be kicking the ball next weekend for Packers. Big FUBAR by Packers front office with kicking position this year.

After that second miss, I thought to myself "that might be the last kick he misses in the NFL."

Sometime well after that second miss, there was a momentary camera cutover to LaFleur on the sidelines and Narveson happened to be walking past him. LaFleur's body language screamed "I'm so effing mad at you I'm not even going to look at you! Get the eff away from me!".

I don't know where they go from here, but Narveson is "strike three" on kickers this year...

I was 99% sure Naverson gone after 2nd miss... now at as confident... maybe 50/50.

2 items...
  1. LaFleur post game comment, “I got a lot of confidence in Brayden. I do. I think that — you know, it's tough — we all want the results."
  2. There are no "good" experienced free agents available... Anders Carlson appears he may be the "best available".... unless they go with another inexerperienced FG kicker... but then Packers just may be getting more of the same.
Kicking and pass rush appear to be 2 biggest issues with Packers presently. Heard a stat that Packers are last collectively as a team with pass rush win rate.

"I've got confidence in Brayden" is exactly what the coach is supposed to say in a press conference. Going for 2 after his second miss seems to indicate otherwise. Giving him a cold should on the sidelines seem to indicate otherwise.

I agree, though; they might stick with him because there's not much else to pick from and you don't necessarily want to start over mid-season if you don't absolutely have to. Chemistry & timing is important.

Packers get their first win of season with Jordan Love at QB.

Good:
- Defense got a hold at end of game to seal a victory
- McKinney a 5th pick on season in 5 games and fumble recovery, big time ball hawk roaming back side of defense
- Some of the rookies on defense... Bullard solid tackling, Edgerrin Cooper sack and big TFL (really hope he gets on the field more), Evan Williams big play at end of game to seal win and 2nd PD
- Kraft a huge game blocking and 2 TDs, great run after catch on 1st TD
- Jayden Reed another solid game
- Narveson made FG and all the extra points.. hope he is turning this around
- Jacobs some tough sledding, but some real hard runs

Bad:
- Some of Loves decisions... pick six, the backward pass... a bit off with some early throws again
- Wicks... targetted 7 times and 2 catches... accounted for 50% of non-receptions of targetted passes... a couple of drops for him
- Packers pass rush... did end up with 3 sacks... but LAR o-line is banged up and seems only time got pressure was with blitzing... LVN and Gary are MIA with pass rush
- Saw Stokes slip on at least 2 passes in his direction including TD gave up... looked very good as rookies, has been somewhat disappointing since

Ugly:
- Packers 1 for 8 on 3rd down conversions

I try to look at the big picture. From my POV, they have lots to work on and plenty of coaching moments. They need to get better weekly, that's pretty much all I'm looking for.

As far as the 3rd down conversions are concerned, a lot of that goes back to play calling on 1st and 2nd down. I didn't watch every play in the first half, but the only first down runs I recall were in the last drive to get a FG before the half. Other than that it was a lot of long throws and not really what I would say are high percentage plays. I don't know if that was the game plan, throw on 1st down in the 1st half and then run the ball in the 2nd, but it sure seemed like it. That doesn't make much sense to me, but they won so I can't question it too deeply.

One thing that. I continue to see with MLF teams is an inability to close. The last drive in the 4th quarter was nice and took about 5 minutes off the clock, but 1 procedure penalty and batted ball on a RPO and they again were punting to a very dangerous QB. Just run the damn ball and keep the clock moving. If the box is that stacked they can run a naked or something along those lines...anything that keeps the clock moving. I got great hindsight, I know.

I'm of the opinion that they need to stick with Narveson. Almost all young kickers have ups and downs, but the thing I like most about him is there is no hook or draw when he kicks it. That says to me that he's got a great shot at being a long term solution. He doesn't have to play his hook or slice, just kick it down the middle and nothing else to worry about. If you watch the last kickers we've had, they've all had some kind of hooks in the flight path, his seem to be straight as an arrow.

I will mention something else after 6 beers. How many defenses at the end of the game when they needed a stop got it? It wasn't many in the close games. I also wouldn't trust anybody's defense to do that regularly. I'm not saying the Packers' D is all that, but in one score games it's not all that common the get the stop when you really need it.

In the first half of the game, I saw some pretty sorry excuses for tackling attempts by several Packers players. One I specifically remember is Evan Williams try to throw a shoulder and completely whiff while the offensive player danced right by him and ran up field for a good gain. I saw better wrapping up in the 2nd half, but hopefully that poor first half will be enough to get back to the basics and do some extra tackling drills in practice this week.

McKinney is making a good case to wear the crown of "best 2024 free agency signing in the NFL".

Yeah... in first half remember Nixon, Williams and Valentine all with poor tackling at times.

Romeo Doubs is another negative... not related to the game itself.

Before the incident, I would have thought he would have been one of the last players to display such attitude on the team... thought he was very much a team player.

Unsure what to make of this incident.

Doubs to return on Wednesday it appears.

Not smart on his part... probably hurts him moving forward looking for that 2nd contract (with or without Packers) when the time comes.

Hopefully he just took some bad advice, realizes it now and is ready to work...

That's what I'm thinking, somebody was pissing in his ear and wore him out with nonsense. I'm hoping they were honest with him in their meetings and he's now back on board with being part of a team and not some me first nonsense.

On an upbeat note, we no longer have to deal with Aaron Rodgers.

I texted my brother yesterday "When Favre went to the Jets, he fucked them over for one injury-riddled mediocre season then bailed. Not to be outdone, Rodgers went to the Jets and fucked them over for at least two injury-riddled mediocre seasons."

Another win for the Packers. McKinney interception streak comes to an end.

Good:
- Jordan Love much more accurate/consistent... 22 of 32, 4 TDs and 1 pick, but pick not really his fault. Did well to take what Cardinals were giving him underneath.
- Packers ran the ball well 179 yards... Josh Jacobs some tough sledding, but some good strong runs. E. Wilson great job as 2nd back.
- Packers 7 for 12 on 3rd down and 1 for 1 on 4th down... good job moving the sticks after have struggled most of the season.
- 3 different WRs with TD catches... when healthy and playing presents issues for defenses.
- Defense 3 fumble recoveries... Evan Williams punching ball out a great play.
- Keeping Murray in pocket and not running for big plays... 7 carries for 14 yards.
- Lot of rookies getting experience on defense.. Bullard, Williams, Cooper and even Hopper played... hopefully they all continue to improve.
- Cleaner on penalties... 5 for 40 yards... only remember 1 on OL for now (Walker hold)

Bad:
- Defense on McBride... seemed to get open easily over the middle.
- Pass rush... 0 sacks and only 1 QB hit
- Narveson another missed FG 40ish yards... not a lot of confidence in him yet... could really come to haunt Packers at some point.

Ugly:
- Nothing here with dominate win

Big game vs 5-1 Texans next week at Lambeau.
