PS DT......You mentioned earlier about if this site got any slower it would be backing up, and I think that's now.
Not disagreeing with you, but I think a lot of fans can same something similar about their team's pitching. I am sure there are probably a lot who would like to have our Hamels and Yu problems.I honestly don't know if we should or shouldn't pick up the option. Frankly, I have had my fill with Holland. But like it or not, our pitching situation is pretty dire.
Hamels looked poor over the last month of the season, and perhaps all those innings have taken a toll. Yu can't stay healthy. what if the team/doctors say Lewis is done, Griffin is no longer ML ready, and don't pick up the option on Dutch, then what do we have?
As winding used to say, "you need to have 10 guys ready to be a SP." And we're struggling to find 5 to start 2017 and that's pretty disconcerting.
Venezuela could be where Rangers’ Gallo gets jump-start
In addition to the need to produce, the atmosphere is different in winter ball. The fans and the intensity that come with games can be eye-opening.
Being in Venezuela should be even more eye-opening. The economy is in shambles. Some citizens are eating garbage to survive. Toilet paper is a luxury item. Isn’t socialism great?
So maybe, just maybe, the Rangers want Gallo to see how reacts to those things as much as getting his swing straightened out.
Gallo, after all, is still 22. He turns 23 next month. Had he played college baseball, it’s unlikely he would have seen the major leagues yet. He’s young.
While he still has development to do, perhaps he also has some maturing to do. Not everyone can be Nomar Mazara.
The bottom line is the Rangers believe that Gallo can be an impact player in their lineup for years to come, even as soon as 2017. He won’t be handed a job in spring training, though he is expected to compete for one.
He will play first base in Venezuela to groom him for a potential — maybe likely — vacancy the Rangers could have at first base if Mitch Moreland is not re-signed. The Rangers also have a hole at designated hitter if Carlos Beltran isn’t re-signed.
There are at-bats to be had, in other words, and Gallo can earn them.
Winter ball could be what jump-starts his career.

In a way I can't wait for this WS to be over so this off season stuff can start. Sure JD can't do anything till then. I think we will know soon enough on the fate of Derek two or three days after the WS is over. Don't think this goes seven. Then we all will have a lot to talk about.
Go whomever!
We will also no quickly if a guy like Tolleson will be retained or DFAd
Boy. Now there's a guy who I had forgotten about.
We had a chance to move him before the season started, and hindsight says, "we blew that one."
Gallo is in charge of his own destiny.Either he can adapt or not.i hope the Rangers aren't going into 2017 with Gallo as an integral part of their planning.
I want to see us start the season with a solid power bat at 1st base. No Rua/Profar rotation. Really don't see Gallo being that person. However, if for any reason he should come up, he needs to avg 270 in AAA in order to expect him to avg 250 in mlb. Really doubt he makes it but will be pleased if he does.I was wondering what you guys want to see from Gallo before you are comfortable with him being awarded a position up here at some point. It pretty much has to be some level of success at AAA I would think. I am not sure anyone is going to be convinced by anything they see in Winter ball.
His OPS was very good last year at AAA so I am thinking most want to see a higher batting average. Maybe not though. That is why I am asking. What moves the needle from definitely not ready to ready to give him a shot on an everyday basis. What does he need to do at AAA and for how long?

I do not think of positions as necessarily having to produce HRs anymore. 20 years ago 2nd baseman/SS where known pretty much for gloves and little bat. Today this isn't true.
Don't know this, but I think our right side of the infield, Odor/Moreland/Profar/Rua produced about as well as anyone from a power standpoint.
So you don't have any particular numbers in AAA that you are looking for?cut down on his strikeouts and his swing kind of like Carlos Gomez did but Carlos listened to the hitting coaches Gallo apparently won't
Would you be okay with his slugging going down as long as his BA goes up?Higher BA and cut down on strikeouts.
Well, Carlos did once he was embarrassed by being released by a team where he failed to make adjustments. So you don't have any particular numbers in AAA that you are looking for?
