Between Chi Chi yesterday and Nick tonight, it seems like the race to fill this rotation will limp to the finish line.

Do any of you have any real hope for Gallo?

I do, but not to make the club this spring or anything. I think someday he will hit about 45-50 HRs on a regular basis for 7 or 8 years. I expect him to look very rough until he gets 800-1000 ABs in his big league career though.

Rangers Gallo making progress despite struggle

Joey Gallo's home run in the seventh inning on Friday left him 3-for-23 in the Cactus League. He has two home runs, five walks and 11 strikeouts, but Rangers manager Jeff Banister said he sees definite improvement.

"Joey's main focus in his work and the cages is trying to control the at-bat," Banister said. "I'm not saying he's up there trying to take pitches, he's still looking for something to drive. His competitive nature is more streamlined and focused. The negatives don't linger. He is able to move on and compete.

"Obviously through the process, all the hard work and handling situations, Joey needed some positive reinforcement and he got it last night."

I just do not have a very good feeling about this year.

On one hand, preseason doesn't matter, the teams aren't making moves to actually win the games and don't care if they lose. The patriots are routinely bad in the NFL preseason, but usually dominate in the regular season / playoffs. The early returns /injury news/ and individual performances of some players have been underwhelming this spring tho. You never know what you really have until the Rangers are playing to win against the Indians on opening day tho.

I'm guessing or hoping that it's a transition year and not the start of a rebuild. Hopefully the team can compete this year and next year. Guess we'll see.

He started the first game I was at in ST... He looked great behind the plate, and seems like he has a lot of potential.

Emily interviewed him after the game yesterday and damn if he doesn't seem like he has a good head on his shoulders too.
