Glad to see pitchers and catchers reporting, this place has been a little slow this offseason! Hopefully we have lots of good Rangers baseball coming soon, though I know we all would have liked to have seen more acquisitions!

Physical makes me a bit nervous w Nap because of the hip issues in the past though he's hasn't seemed to have slowed much because of it. I'm sure it turns out just fine

Why money might not be the only reason Texas could let Yu Darvish walk after 2017 | SportsDay

However, a Darvish deal would be a bigger financial investment than anything that's come before in the matter of spring talks -- something in the $150 million (or more) neighborhood. Likely more complicated, too. Pitching deals always are. It might have to include an opt-out clause, insurance policies and other gizmos to be workable for both sides. It is fair to think that such a deal might require a little longer to negotiate than others.

Which begs this question: Why hasn't more been done?

Yu Darvish contract drama hovers over Rangers camp

He also has to consider the system he has put in place with the Rangers. He has his run of the place, as from his first day the club has at times bent over backward to keep him feeling comfortable.

Darvish, who is dedicated to his routine and hesitant to change, said last month that last season was the first time he felt completely at ease.

Starting over with that process with another team would take time, and another team might not be as gracious as the Rangers have been. He would also have to move his family to a new city with, perhaps, a larger media contingent.

“I like this environment, and I’m enjoying it,” Darvish said. “But this is our job. If I have to play on a different team, it is what it is. But I like being in an environment I’m comfortable with.”

Here’s a guarantee: Darvish’s contract situation will be settled this time next year. He might be part of the next great exodus from the Rangers, or maybe he decided the Rangers are his best fit.

That contract drama will be hanging over the Rangers until it has a resolution.

Ross sticking to plan as Rangers pitchers get going

Ross said that he is throwing every day, maxing out at 100 feet, but he isn’t sure when he will get on a mound or even when he’s likely to return. A club official said last month that Ross should be back by May or early June.

The Rangers are actually helping him stay in the moment by revealing only a few days’ worth of the rehab plan at a time. He isn’t allowed to get ahead of himself.

“Rehab is about small windows and small wins,” Banister said. “If you look to far out front looking for that big win, it’s like being in January and waiting for Christmas. It’s a process of knocking days down. Rehab guys need to have singular, daily goals.”

Nice to see some news starting to trickle in

Off-season sucked and it was longer than it should've been

I know it will never happen, but I wish the writers would leave the Darvish narrative alone. Let the FO do what they do.

The $8.5 million for Napoli includes the buyout for next year. So this year he is actually only paid $6 million.
