I applaud the optimists, but this team is cooked. Winning in Calgary is a HUGE "if." And then Winnipeg and Calgary cooperating after that is another major "if." And if you cannot beat Edmonton with the season on the line, do we really want to enter the playoffs as wounded duck (pun intended)? We would probably get drubbed.

That said, what does Lombardi need to do to get this machine well oiled again?

Looks like we are up a creek with Richards? Suppose he gets cut and the Kings take the cap hit?
Voynov's future?
J-Wil?
Stoll?

Pending free agents? What's the cap situation look like?

I find it hard to believe we have anyone waiting in the wings down in Manchester if Shore is seeing so much PT?

This thread feels so wrong. well, might as well...
Voynov situation really hurt this team. Not sure what cutting Richards would accomplish. Looks like we have a slim chance at the draft lottery, but it would be friggen hilarious if we won it and got McDavid. Overall, this team had a GREAT three year run and a couple extra months off that a lot of this team hasn't had in 3 years could help them come back and do it again.

Let Regher walk and sign Sekera?
If Voynov isn't coming back, Regher needs a pay cut if he comes back.

Agree, Rehger had some god awful games but he brings experience and is annoy body to clear the net in front of Quick.

fatigue is a cop out, lots of players have played close to as many games and still have the will to win. I would say they are not concerned with winning after the success they have had and that makes them look tired when really they are content

I said this even before Stoll's legal issues, but I believe the Kings just let him walk, and put Richards in that spot. WTH, he's already under contract, and he'll at least match Stoll's offense if he's playing with someone other than Nolan and Clifford. And a buyout at this point will have such a negative effect on the cap that it really makes no sense.

And I'm betting Williams is gone, too, but of his own accord. I think family issues are gonna dictate a move closer to home (Ocean City, NJ), and some Eastern up-and-coming team with cap space (NYI?) is gonna throw much more money at him than the Kings can afford to pay him.

I bet Sekera can make more money somewhere else, too, and it just depends how much he wants to sign with the Kings, and considers them a true contender for the Cup still, or if he thinks the window has closed. I'd like him back, but I'm not sure the Kings can afford him if he just wants the bucks.

Pretty much agree with this, great point about Richards replacing Stoll. The cap impact would be horrendous for the next 8 or so years.

Williams I think would have stayed here for a little less if the Kings had done better or depending how far they would have gone, but the situation with the cap dictates they won't have much for him and he is probably looking for a retirement contract. He will not get that here, he will be 34 when the season starts and while he has stayed healthy in LA after a pretty nutty stretch of injuries spanning 3 seasons that could change quick. He ain't a spring chicken anymore.

He has 3 Cups and a CS, he's accomplished what he set out to do - chasing the money wouldn't surprise me. He did seem old and slow to me the last half of this season, so I wouldn't doubt this play at all, Mitchell did it.

The advantage LA has to resign Sekera is the recent Cup runs, the winning culture and respect around the league. Also working in the Kings' favor as I mentioned is his injury, some teams may not want to take a risk on him with huge dollars. We saw Mitchell miss an entire season with what was supposed to be a basic injury, it's possible.

I would like to see the Kings trade Muzzin or Martinez for a promising T6 forward who may be on an ELC or second contract and use the savings to resign Sekera.

Not so much chasing money with Williams, but with 3 rings and his Conn Smythe (and his place in NHL history re: game 7 performance), the wife is probably going to be on him to sign with someone closer to home. If Philly had the cap room, I'd bet he'd go back there in a heartbeat.

Good idea on swapping D-man for F...much as you would prefer it be Muzz, I'll bet Marty goes first. How about him, Nolan and like a 3rd/4th rounder for Yakupov, who seems like he's finally getting over his selfish "me-me-me" game?
