It's probably unfair but I can't vote for degrom because of the won loss record.
Scherzer and Nola are Vertually tied.

I understand the thought... But with no NL pitcher having 20 wins, NONE hit the CY bench mark, so I don't really think Wins is an important category in this years NL CY race...

That looks close to right . deGrom too low, Lester too high but still good. My top 5 would be

deGrom
Freeland
Scherzer
Nola
Mikolas

In that order

I think Freeland is impossible to measure... Probably has a better chance of MVP than CY... which is a weird comment...

I wonder since there Have been an NL CY AND NL MVP, if there has ever been a pitching MVP who did not win the CY...

Does Scherzer still lead in war?

Yup.

Plus 300 Ks

He gets my vote.

Hope he’s ridiculously good on Sunday to slam the door shut

Which war??? There’s multiple.

It’s deGrom and hopefully the vote will not be close

deGrom with 8 2 hit shutout innings tonight and the pen didn't blow it for him this time.

A statement game for sure, and the Mets improve to 1-5 against the Braves with deGrom on the mound.

He was unhittable. Zero stress. Could have easily got the CG shutout if they would have let him.

deGrom has only allowed 4 runs in a start once this season, every other start was 3 or fewer. Scherzer allowed 5+ runs to the Braves alone twice this year.

Baseball-Reference.

Technically, deGrom is superior in both pitching WARs but Scherzer slightly edges him in overall WAR when you account for batting (Scherzer has 0.8 batting WAR, deGrom has 0.5). Nola actually leads all NL pitchers in WAR on the basis of the Phillies being a god awful defensive team.

300 K's are great, but deGrom's strikeout rate isn't too shabby either (11.2 K/9) and deGrom has better overall peripherals (13 fewer home runs allowed, much better FIP/xFIP).

What was the worst record a pitcher had in a Cy winning season ?
Edit. Felix Hernandez won in 2010 with a 13-12 record, Degrom 10-9, that is a tiny number of wins to be considered for a Cy.

10-9 will be tough to over come.

Felix Hernandez won the Cy with a 13-12 record, so while it is a few more wins than DeGrom, there is precedence for a barely .500 pitcher winning it.

I mentioned the Hernandez win above.
I'm on the fence, 10-9 is a very low bar.

Missed that, my b..

He is 10-9, but when you look at his game log it's hard to fault him...in his 13 no-decisions for instance, he's given up just 15 runs.

No doubt his controllable stats are plenty impressive enough.
Scherzer is close in quality when you look at advanced stats, they both have a .91 whip, 28 quality starts and over 200 innings pitched.
The record would probably sway me to Scherzer, fair or not.

I hope deGrom getting over .500 was the clincher for some voters. I know I'm biased, but... shut up.

Dude has had a season for the history books. 20 years from now, when guys are having outstanding seasons in terms of ERA, runs allowed, scoreless innings, or quality starts, the graphics will read "So-and-so is the first pitcher to achieve {fill in the blank} since Jacob deGrom in 2018"

That's a joke if anyone thinks deGrom was the 7th best pitcher in the NL this year, lol. It's mostly a joke if he doesn't win it but if he finishes anywhere lower than 2nd it's a completely ridiculous.

As I said before, that CYA model puts an emphasis on the pitchers' records and how their teams are in the standings. The whole point of the CYA predictor isn't to say who should win, it's saying who will win based on how the Cy Young voting has gone throughout the history of the award. The predictor was developed by Rob Neyer and Bill James. Keep in mind it also had Felix 7th in 2010 and it had Jansen winning last year. I'd also say there's fewer traditional voters than there were, say, a decade ago.

It's either Scherzer or deGrom, Nola has a small chance but he's dropped a tad over the past month.
