Oklahoma's coach was none other than former UMn Gopher Bud Wilkinson.

Washington's coach was none other than former UMn Gopher Gil Dobie.

That accounts for #1 and #2 on that list, oh, and #9 as well, as Bud Wilkinson has 2 on that list.

UMn was the spoiler to Michigan's #13 rated streak.

And Biggie Munn, another former UMn Gopher, sits on that list at #17

And AGAIN, another former Gopher has 2 on that list as Gil Dobie was the coach at Cornell for their 26 game win streak that comes in at #20 on that list
.........so not the actual UMn, but other universities with coaches who were from the region before they coached.

Ok. I see the "point" but that wasn't what you said.
Your statement: "We STILL own the longest unbeaten streak AND the longest winning streak in major college football history!!!"

To clarify UMn does NOT "own the longest unbeaten and winning streak in college football history.

Also, just to be clear, although both played at Minny neither Bud Wilkinson nor Gil Dobie ever coached at the UMn, or any other Minnesota team.

Bud Wilkinson played football for the Gophers, as did Gil Dobie and Biggie Munn as well.

That is 5 of the Top 20 winning streaks of all-time, all accomplished by former Golden Gophers.

And you are wrong, Bud Wilkinson DID coach at Minnesota, under his former Coach Bernie Bierman, and I believe Gil Dobie coached under Henry Williams? Either way, he PLAYED for Henry Williams, as did Bernie Bierman and another Hall of Famer Clark Shaughnessy. Then Bud Grant and Bud Wilkinson and Biggie Munn and Cal Stoll and John Roning all played for Bernie Bierman and Biggie Munn also coached under Bernie Bierman. Frank Larson, one of the former Gophers who went up and coached in the CFL played for and coached under Bernie Bierman. And I'm just scratching the surface of Minnesota's very large coaching tree.

Ok. But you were directly referencing UMn in the post, now you are laying claim to streaks to UMn that had nothing to do with them but the fact that they were on campus at some point.

According to that logic Wesleyan University has 6 Lombardi Trophies because Bellichick played there many years ago.

They got the fuck out of that shithole that is Minnesota.

Minnesota sends out many of it's people, that is true, they go out into the world to make the rest of the world a better place. Minnesota raised people are in high demand, for one, for their high work ethic, also for their high moral character, in general, and also for their higher level of intelligence/education, and of course, for their superior skills as well.

It's also why Minnesota has been able to retain/build up EIGHTEEN Fortune 500 companies, which as far as I know is the highest # when looked at per capita of all the 50 states, and Minnesota produced the largest privately owned company in the world as well, because of the combination of homegrown peeps creating or inventing sh1t people want because they are so smart and creative, and those companies knowing how high quality of a work force they can build up depending on Minnesotans.

According to that logic Wesleyan University has 6 Lombardi Trophies because Bellichick played there many years ago.

And Minnesota has 6 NBA Titles via John Kundla, the coach of the Lakers who played for the Gophers. And a Stanley Cup Championship, via Bob Johnson, and a Super Bowl Title, via Tony Dungy, and 8 Grey Cup Championships, via Bud Grant & Marc Trestman, several Silver Medals in Men's Olympic Hockey via a couple of guys and a Gold Medal Miracle on Ice via the legendary Herb Brooks.

That IS the purpose of the University, isn't it? To train up and education people to go out into the world and make it a better place? That was the original intention, and it's why states pay towards funding state universities because they benefit from what the Universities produce, and NO, I'm not talking about some entertainment for the masses via college football or other college sports, originally college sports were meant primarily to help teach the students the values that sports competition teach. And now that sports has become a big time business, Universities primary focus should be on training up the athletes that play for them on their sports teams, to use what they learn while competing to be better at whatever it is they choose to do after moving on and out into the real world.

It's why Universities ALL claim their famous alums, whether it be their Nobel Prize winners or the ones who invented cool stuff or the ones who went on to fame and fortune in Hollywood or the movie business or in some other kind of business. Every single university and even the high schools do it as well, small towns do it when one of their own goes on to fame and/or fortune.

That's actually not even close to true. Minnesota, as a state, has one of the highest retention rates in the nation. People who move here for business or for a job, stay here more often than they do in other states. That's been proven.

Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor and Kirby Puckett were all offered more money to play elsewhere and chose to stay with the Twins

No, they do not have NBA championships attributed to the university because a former player there was a coach. It is a ridiculous use of mental gymnastics to try to justify your narrative and reach a (laughable) conclusion.

I suppose this is intentional on your part. You are either doing it specifically to rile people up with your arrogance, and/or you suffer from a subconcious lack of self worth so you have to make unrealistic claims to massage your ego.

I've been to 48 countries, and at least 35 states. Literally every place I go has this homeristic behavior. They all think they are the best and will vocally tell you about it. It is ingrained human nature to be tribalistic and have a need to feel superior. Maybe someday you will realize how ridiculous it all is unless, of course this is just one big troll.

So... you acknowledge it's human nature, and here you are on a sports discussion forum where every single person that comes here comes with some team that represents their tribe, but let me guess, you are a superior being, you have evolved beyond such things? LOL Maybe it's not me who needs to feel superior? I mean, bragging about how many countries you've been to, as if any of us care.

As for me and my trumpeting Minnesota, the thing is, I can back up the superior talk with facts and stats, etc..

It's one thing for a newbie on the block, like Ohio St, to feel good about their wrestling program doing well, but no one touches either Iowa or Oklahoma when it comes to wrestling historically. That is just a fact. Nothing tribal about it. Labeling Iowans or Oklahomans who are proud of their school's accomplishments in the sport of wrestling is just ignorant, it's denying the facts.

Same could be said of that tribe in Africa that produces a huge majority of the world's best runners. I believe they dominate the Marathon races?

Nothing tribal about acknowledging this.

Same could be said about Jews and how small of a percentage of the world's population they make up, yet they win a very large percentage of the Nobel Prizes. Nothing tribal about it, it's just a fact that should be acknowledged.

Pennsylvania either still does, or at least used to produce a large percentage of the best QBs out there.

It's just how it is. Some of it could be genetics, other factors could be how people are raised, like Jews are raised up with a high respect for knowledge and learning and the law, so they excel in such things.

Finally, some sort of factors come into play, that for whatever reason, enable or inspire or contribute to Minnesota producing quality people. Not always quantity, but definitely quality

Yeah, and that is basically a one hit wonder. Several small colleges did that, produced one athlete who went on to accomplish great things. Hardly shows a trend or anything.

But Minnesota didn't just produce ONE great coach. UMn produced a ton of them.

A list of accomplishments associated with something something Minnesota...

Minnesota is the 32nd state.... 3 - 2 = 1. Minnesota is #1.
Minnesota ranks 21st in population.... 2-1 = 1. Minnesota is #1.
Minnesotas nickname is the Star of the North, which means Minnesota is responsible for helping slaves find their way.
The northernmost part of the continental United States is Angle, Minnesota. This was done so that everyone would know that Minnesota will always sit above the rest.
The state of Minnesota was the inspiration for the story about Forrest Gump.
Chuck Norris has been to all of the states, but has only entered Minnesota when invited.
When Bin Laden was killed, every member on that Seal team was from Minnesota.
There is a hidden rule that if you spell Minnesota in scrabble, you automatically win.

These were my favorites.

The one about Bin Laden sounds like a claim I might make, but only if it were true, lol.

And since a large percentage of those who settled Minnesota were Scandinavians who, though mostly Christian at the time they came to America, descended from pagans, so it's very possible that the first Minnesotans WERE descended from the people who built Stonehenge. That one was my overall favorite, lol.

Well, should I start with Minnesota's list of Coaches, or Miami of Ohio's, to show how weak Miami's argument is.

Arnsparger - 7-28
Ed Biles - 8-23
Faulkner - 9-22-1
Clive Rush 5-16

And one of their Hall of Famers Weeb Ewbank, 130-129-7. WOW, he did crack .500, lol.
