If he gets surgery, what is the timeline for him to be back?

Could still be a trade deadline deal for it out of town.

If I am Boston i pull back the deal right now.

I approach IT right now with a contract at lets say $25M and 4 years. Tell him he has 24 hours to sign it, and it will include a no trade clause. Then, rest IT for two months.

If he does not sign I still am ok as he will need to prove himself this year to get his next long contract. Now Crowder, thats the wild card.

The Cavs are a folly

I wouldn't give IT anywhere near $25 mil per year. I also wouldn't include a no trade clause either. Look at Melo with the Knicks and there you go.

As long as they can trade IT at the deadline this is a mega win. Otherwise it's just a win to get the overturned. Lol

Danny needs to thank CLE for trying to screw this up for him.

If this is your hope... have to think the C's lost a good bit of leverage in any trade negotiation regarding IT.

Furthermore, IT would be on a l year rental contract and be due a mega pay day.

How much can the C's realistically get for him under such circumstances?

Lou Williams went for a 1st round pick for Christ sake, so they can get some solid value.

But it is starting t sound like the C's medical staff may have botched this one.

A generic first round pick is laughably small, almost inconsequential, compared to Kyrie Irving.

The real trade here is the Brooklyn pick for Kyrie. Those are the 2 key pieces... and there is pro's and con's either way.

What are you basing this on? Reports out of Cleveland?

I hope you take those reports with a huge grain of salt.

Both teams would lose leverage.
I doubt the Cavs back out.
They might bluff, but at the end of the day they can function with I.T. missing time if need be.

the fact that he's not running yet is probably not a good sign.

I'm just curious how long he'd be out either way.

I'm not interested in Kyrie for the Brooklyn pick.

Plus, the C's can't make a deal work salary wise without Crowder anyway.

They could use 3 of their "generic" firsts and get back into the top 10 next year for another premium rookie.

Just like Portland did this year

All sides knew about this injury.

Given the nature of the injury, I don't think think anyone should be shocked that IT is not risking reaggravation at this point.

All of this is a long cry from the C's medical staff "botching" anything. Much more likely that the Cavs are shameless and willing to play extortion games after a deal had been agreed to in good faith.

Well, yeah, I think that' been established by this point. :D

This is certainly one way they could go...

... the C's already have a good bit of young talent to develop, though. They aren't short in this area. I think they are planning to strike (i.e. - be championship ready) in 2-3 years... Kyrie fits with that, if they can get him to resign...

... and I like the C's betting on their organization on that front. I think Stevens and Kyrie are going to be a match made in heaven.

Possible that the Celtics purposefully misled the Cavs.

Possible that the Cavs had no surprises with the physical and are just trying to squeeze assets.

Both of those are unlikely to me though. Likely, the Celtics doctors and Cavs doctors have a difference of opinion, in which case both sides are justified in being upset with the other.

I still think the Cavs can walk away easier. Irvings trade value is fine and cavs can wait for the deadline if needed. Who cares if they can't get a better deal than the imaginary one where IT is healthy. It's imaginary and funny how the Celtics fans are suddenly back to over valuing that pick.

IT's trade value just went from a 1 year rental to a 2 month rental. And Celtics have no point guard for awhile if this doesn't get done.

^ A highly debatable claim... especially if this C's deal falls through because Cleveland backed out of it.

Kyrie very vocally wants out of Cleveland, everybody knows it... and now the Cleveland front office is a difficult, reneging mess to have to deal with on top of that.

Who else is going to be lining up for a 2 year rental on Kyrie? Who else is going to offer close to what the C's did?

Atlanta is worse.

The Suns are too young and play in the West.

The Kings are....

Well, the Kings.

Orlando is also a fucking dumpster fire of mismatch parts.

It's very possible that the Nets won't finish bottom 3.

Chicago too.
