Westside Giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirl.
Yes, I did.
Russell WestBRICK is our only claim to fame.
Russell used to come to my house and get his hair cut by my uncle all the time.
You guys can claim Dorrell(sp) Wright, he went there.
Also, I don't know how old you are or if you follow the players, but there was also a player by the name of Kelsy(sp). He was the same age as Russell and was better than Russell. He was definitely going to the league. But sadly, in 10th grade, he was playing a summer league game at UCLA on a Sunday and passed away on the court. He was having a great game, when he suddenly collapsed. He had an enlarged heart. It was a sad moment at Leuzinger High.
I'm an old lady.
Graduated in 1990.
I remember Khelcey Barrs.
That was a tragedy.
He died at Southwest College.
Oh ok, I knew it was a college. Yeah it was very sad.
Have you seen Leuzinger lately? It doesn't look like a jail anymore. They finally put some money in that school.
Well, when I went there in 1989-90, it didn't have the prison fence with the barbwire running along the top.
It was an open campus and we could come and go as we please.
I have not ventured in the area for about 10 years.
I live in the Inland Empire.....
Rancho to be exact.
I worked in the actual jail, Twin Towers, Mens Central, IRC in downtown for about 14 years.
Once I retired, I never even go past the 10 fwy and 605, unless it's to go to a Clipper game or Ramona's burritos.
