Imo, this is what Linehan wanted. If the plan was for Red to call the plays, why bother letting go of Linehan?
He's been cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs over Moore for years and years and multiple teams.
And I like Linehan.

We are what we are and we are good at power football. Play action is the pass compliment to that style. I'd consider those the staples that should not be altered. But we need to be able to run more creative things from shotgun. Why not? That's exactly what I'm hoping for and basically what you seem to be looking for too from your comments. I don't care if they keep the same terminology or not. But I want a total overhaul of this offense and the problem there is and has been Garrett. All we have done for years is run his Offense regardless of who the OC is.
B I N G O !!!!!Another sore subject with me - identifying and exploiting an opponents weakness and attacking it. Too often we just keep our heads down and just do what we do - pretty much the opposite of the Patriots.
We actually aren't fantastic at power football. We run the ball very well and our OL can be very good and of course our RB is fantastic but our running game isn't exactly a power game lately. How many times do we convert 3rd or 4th and 1 with Zeke on a straight power run? We should do it every single time but we don't. This could of course be due to Looney and Williams as compared to Frederick and Leary but the fact is we don't get the push up the middle or off the line in general that we used to. Our running game this year seemed to work better when things were spread out more. We don't have a FB that can block, we stopped playing the TEs as H Backs and even in short yardage we seem to have deeper handoffs (which often get stuffed by penetration) and mostly let Zeke use his vision more often than not lately. We are what we are and we are good at power football. We should keep zone reads, trap blocking and halfback screens as well. I'd like to see more quick slant routes (lay-ups), flag/post deep crosses off play action, flood concepts that move a defense to one side of the field, screens and fake screen draw plays. Our jet sweeps aren't impactful, and we need a couple plays off that instead of pound Zeke straight ahead.
All these things are likely already in the playbook. But to excel at these things we need Dak to improve on his vision. A lot of times he plays timid, afraid to make a mistake or he waits too long. He can go through progressions, but adding more fakes to get the defense to take a false step or two, helps his timing.

We lack an ability to scheme people open in space and that is what makes this offense a bottom feeder. We can't just lay it at players feet and say do it better. We need our new OC to add wrinkles, a few concepts to keep what we are good at while also making it easy to get a few big plays without hero ball by players just making the incredible happen. The plan next year better not be to get Zeke the ball 30 times to see what he can do.
Just a little food for thought amongst the Cowboy faithful . Lots of the pundits are speculating that Kellen Moore could be elevated to OC and John Kitna brought in as QB coach.
This is not some ramblings brought in by Joe Cowboys fan from eastern southern New Zealand it is being reported by several sources with alleged inside information.
Just thought I would throw this out. My take is he is nowhere ready for that yet. Who knows what may happen
Thoughts ?
Please enlighten us on why he's a football genius. I don't see where he did anything to help Dak. I don't see any teams knocking down his door to hire him as a quarterback coach or offensive coordinator, not one. And if he's such a genius why didn't he get an interview with all the teams that were looking for a head coach. You know coaching experience matters and he was 1 year of experience at any level of football as a quarterback coach, none as a offensive coordinator. The average Dallas fan is a clueless fool - like most fans. The ones who can't SEE that Kellen Moore is the OBVIOUS choice is as blind as blind gets. They literally know nothing about him if they can't see that. These are the same clueless wonders who were enraged that Dallas "wasted" their 1st round pick in the NFL draft to take Boise State's Leighton Vander Esch - those people look like total morons today.
Moore is a friggin football GENIUS and anyone who doesn't know that...............doesn't know anything about him. All one has to do to educate themselves about the truth of that statement is go check what EVERYONE who actually knows Moore has to say about him since he got to the NFL, i.e., Detroit and Dallas.
He might be a great OC, we'll see, but he didn't impress as a QB coach and that's a factThe average Dallas fan is a clueless fool - like most fans. Well they used to say Garrett was a genius too, before he became a HC. Still waiting to see this come true. The average Dallas fan is a clueless fool - like most fans. How you know that didn't already happen?Did everything but blow Moore.
Are you sure about that? We're you there?Did everything but blow Moore.

Agree. If he's picked, I'll bitch about, then say OK now go be great and prove me wrong. If they make Moore the OC I'll give him a fair chance. He can't be worse than Linehan, can he? If we are running Garrett's Offense then IMO it really doesn't matter if the OC is Andy Reid or Gus the Mule because they are bound by the constraints of this scheme. But what drives me crazy with this team is how they are so reactionary and always have been. They follow blueprints that have been successful and assume if they do the same it will work for us. Well, it doesn't work that way. Jerry sees mobile QBs and thinks Quincy Carter will be them. He looks at things that worked for the Cowboys in the 90's and thinks he can just do those same things but we had an incredible amount of talent on those teams. He sees McVay and thinks Moore will be him but McVay is special. I like the idea of getting a young hot shot OC with fresh ideas and maybe that could be Moore, but where has he honed his craft? How many successful offenses has he been in? One year as a QB coach teaches you little. Plus he is kind of going from backup QB to Boss for a lot of these same players and that is not easy to jump the pecking order that much that soon, because if any adversity hits it could go downhill quickly.
My summary of this is that this move may work out and I pray it does, but I think it is foolish because I think it is too risky right now. Give the guy a couple more years to develop and then give him a shot and let the risk vs reward even out a little more. He isn't going anywhere. They compare him to Garrett in the article, but it was clear Garrett wasn't ready when he took over and he had a lot more seasoning than Moore did.
