The Raptors isn't the only team he is looking at though. Everyone knows that if both Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson had not went down with injuries, that Toronto would never have won the championship. That means he is looking at the teams in Los Angeles because he believes that he may have a better chance to win then in Toronto. Good basket club, did everything they needed to - but it's not about Toronto any more

No I was never good enough for the NBA but I was darn good on my high school team.

It seems to be a fairly recent thing where max money matters less than playing with your friends and taking less to have better teammates around you. Which makes sense as the numbers get bigger. If it's a difference between making $5 mil a year and $8 mil a year, that's significant. If it's $43 mil vs $40 mil, who really cares if it means you have a better team?

Maybe the next CBA will reflect the new reality somehow.

Seems to have started with the Lakers. I don't remember any other teams doing it, but mainly with the New CBA. It's a powerful tool in saving up cap space for an all star player and seems like to me it has been effective
