Why are we comparing them? A better comparison for Anderson against a HOFer would be Ken Stabler whose career timeframe actually was the same as Anderson's... or Bradshaw. Anderson's stats are better than both, so then it becomes a "rings" argument, which is explained by the fact that Bradshaw and Stabler both had much better supporting casts.

Right, that too. 78/79 was when the really started handcuffing DBs. Anderson's career was more than half over. Montana's was just getting started. Montana was clearly better than Anderson, but when comparing stats we have to adjust for era.
