Gibbs was a terrible GM. Bethard left because of that. Traded for Jason when we could have stood pat and gotten him anyway. Tied himself to Brunell because Brunell literally saved Gibbs' life when he started choking over dinner.

That being said he did get us a playoff win. Beat Tampa in Tampa because Sean Taylor was awesome, Chris Simms sucked, and Joe Gibbs can can coach.
I think we ALL are...

Yes, I mentioned in my post that Gibbs was not a good personnel guy. Ummm … Sean sure gets a lot of credit. :noidea: Arrington picked a ball and returned to the 6 yard line. Portis scored the next play. Arrington and Washington each forced a fumble one of which Marcus Washington recovered and started to return but he fumble close to Taylor who picked it up and scored. Three leaders in tackles were Lemar Marshall - 12, Arrington and Washington with 10 each. Taylor was tied with three other guys with 7 tackles. I think the LBer corps was awesome.

But back to the larger question … what is acceptable from a Rivera coached team?

I'll take 8-8 next year. With the money we have available, a top two pick, and a 4th place schedule, I see no reason why .500 is out of the question.

I don't want to place expectations on him past this year. Dan is such a wildcard. He's capable of taking over the draft, rehiring Bruce, siding with Haskins over Ron if those two are at odds.

1. Culture change
2. Noticeably better on defense
3. All the young guys on defense play like first rounders
4. .500 ball
5. Playing hard
6. Less penalties
7. Heading into 2021 with clear playoff expectations.

That's what I want to see from Rivera.

Your last statement is of deep concern. Dan is now making on the field decisions? Uh-oh. What's next, sending plays down from the owners box?

Perhaps, he will allow his QB to tell his coaches what he will and won't do!:pound:

before the draft and FA i say 5 wins , this isnt a quick turn around when you are trying to fix a bad culture of 20 plus years

one result of the #firebruceallen protest is you could get a more hands on approach from dan

I have said this several times but too many are way too concerned about 3-4 versus 4-3. Playing the freaking defense right is/has been the problem. I don't give a fuck what defense Dan wants. I want the football people to make that GD decision.

We can all take cracks at how the defense will align but ultimately we need to see what Rivera/Del Rio want. I think we have the personnel now more for a 4-3 under. Because we have so many DE/Sam LB types. Kerrigan/Sweat, Anderson and Allen.

For those who listened to Hoffman today and for the most part I agree. LDE is Allen, Ironman, Payne, Sweat/Kerrigan at RE. Anderson at Sam, Foster, SDH and Holcomb for the Mike and Will LBer.

JMO but I think Chase Young becomes less important and would look for a trade down to get more picks and look for a 4-3 style LBer.
I agree with Hoffman. And that's a major reason why we should trade down on the Young pick. We were what - 8th in the NFL in sacks? How much better are we going to get with Young? If anything, we need 43 OLBers - no not 43 of them - you know what I mean. Young seems to be more of a DE in a 43. Bostic gets lost in the shuffle - can he play some OLB?

We need to least consider this. We could trade back, pick up another 1st +++ and still get an effective, if not top notch, OLB/TE/OT. In fact, maybe all 3 if we are shrewd with our dealings and are willing to move multiple times.
I have concerns that Young is more effective in a 3-4. I'm not sure where you play him in a 4-3. OLB? Do we really want him dropping back into coverage more times than not? DE? We are pretty loaded there. No doubt he would be one of our best, but how much more than Allen or Payne, or Settle? We could make a huge difference in a couple very weak areas immediately if we think about trading the pick.

You need to at least think about it and analyze what you think you could get if you did. Then you can make an informed decision.

What do you think we could get for the pick? What was it that we gave up to move 4 spots for RG3? 2 1sts and a second, right?

I guess the real question is what will some team be willing to give up to get Tua, if he comes out? Could we get RG3 compensation? Very similar profiles.

"Going to stop the run on the way to the QB" …. sounds like something Clint or John Wayne would say.
