It smells that way. And I get the feeling that the Laz and Arroyo promotions are to showcase them for a few weeks.
Laz is a guy I’m confused on as well. I was under the impression he just an offensive guy with no other real skill. But when I check in on him from time to time he gotten triples, hustle doubles. So dude can’t be too slow, so not sure why it seems everyone pegs him as a DH and not a COF or a 1B. IMO if you are athletic enough to get a triple, even in lower levels, you should be athletic enough to be at least average in the field

I have watched clips of him. He can move and play better outfield than Haniger...ya I know low bar.

Nico Hoerner. 27 and signed through 2026 season.

This is the biggest rumor so far.

From ESPN:

The only guy associated with Mariners as realistic because of them being cheap and all.

Mariners/Giants: Trade for/trade away LaMonte Wade Jr.

The Mariners are in first place in the AL West but have issues all over the place, starting with a lineup that in one recent 10-game stretch had hit totals of 6, 5, 5, 3, 7, 15, 6, 5 and 3. From June 11 to June 29, they hit .196 -- including that 15-hit game -- yet still managed to go 9-8. That isn't going to work all season. They also have concerns about bullpen depth, and even the rotation hasn't been locked down of late, with Luis Castillo scuffling, the league figuring out Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo unable to stay healthy.

Realistically, the Mariners need two big bats. Take their Saturday lineup, for example: J.P. Crawford hitting leadoff (.215 average), Julio Rodriguez hitting second (.247, one double in his past 42 games), Cal Raleigh batting third (.202) and Mitch Garver hitting cleanup (.172). You're trying to hold off the Astros with that?

This is a franchise that spent the offseason rejiggering its roster in order to avoid increasing payroll. Even if Guerrero or Alonso were available, it seems unlikely the Mariners would trade for them (unless the Blue Jays or Mets covered some of their remaining salary in exchange for a better prospect). The Mariners do have an excellent farm system at the top with Colt Emerson, Cole Young and Harry Ford emerging as top-50 prospects and Lazaro Montes and Felnin Celestin as top-100 guys (and pitcher Logan Evans, one of the minors' top breakout performers). They have the need ... but do they have the willpower? Realistically, they need a first base/DH-type plus a corner outfielder. The less glamorous options might include Tommy Pham or Mark Canha, but I like Wade (hitting .326 with a .460 OBP) to give them some much-needed on-base skills.

As for the Giants, certainly if Blake Snell and Robbie Ray return successfully from their rehab assignments, they could make a run at a wild-card spot over the final two months, but they'll have to get hot in the next three weeks. Maybe that will happen, but this just doesn't have the feel of a playoff team. Wade is under team control through 2025, but with so few good bats likely available, the Giants should see what they can get for him.

A good combo trade idea I saw were for Hoerner and Alonso. With Hoerner the Cubs would get Polanco, Peete and one of the MLB ready prospects between Locklear, Clase or Bliss. Then M’s get Alonso and Marte for France, Haniger plus a combo of Emerson, Ford, Aiden Smith, Morales and Arroyo. Not saying it’s great but it for sure upgrades the MLB roster and allows for them to not rush Cole Young up.

Though if anyone is watching Arroyo stats he is creeping towards the untouchable category.

Man that seems like a lot for Hoerner who is hitting .248 with no power. I mean if it was Polanco, Peete and Clase I could live with it. Not thrilled by it. But Bliss or Locklear would hurt.

I just don't want Alonso. No rentals especially a power guy coming to a place that zaps power. Plus Mets are back in it so doubt they are looking to deal. That could change in the next few weeks I suppose.

So both deals sound like the Kelenic deal where we are paying teams with top prospects to unload salary. Don't like that at all.

Ideally the Mariners would push for Bliss to be the guy but it was just hypothetical.

That was kind of the idea though with the Mets. Alonso is a FA and France would be a serviceable replacement (or at least Jerry could say only look at May’s numbers) The Mets are in a weird spot cause they have zero chance of making noise if they do make the playoffs and the thought behind the deal is kind of like Sewald trade the M’s did last year.

Fair enough, but IMO trading a prospect to unload Haniger is worth, unless the FO is cool with eating the rest of the contract. But yes the Kelenic deal is still dumb and no justification besides just wanting him gone. Marco would be really nice having on the team right now even if he was overpaid.

I just can't get behind any deals when you attach an asset just to unload salary for a team like ours in a great position to win now and long term with a cheap payroll. There is just no justification for that. None. We should be on the other end of those trades. Taking on salaries and adding a prospect from loser teams.

I’m with you if ownership is willing to eat Hanigers contract. But they aren’t and Haniger hurts the team more than will ever contribute. Not ideal at all but it’s the situation they put themselves in because they idiotically traded Ray for Haniger.

I have no problem with that trade that got us Haniger. Not because of the warm and fuzzy but we did load a contract for a smaller one without any prospects involved.

I haven problem holding onto Haniger this season vs dealing him with a prospect in a cash grab. He is tied for 2nd on the team in RBI's which is so crazy.

I know this should be a poll but I don’t have time to figure out how to do it. But do we as fans want to

-Trade a bunch of prospects to land one of the big fish
-Trade some prospects to get marginally better
-Stand pat
-Have Jerry run over Scott’s career with a semi truck and trade Gilbert or Kirby.

I don't want Jerry touching anything anymore. Play out the season, miss the playoffs by 2 games and let me dream about the young guys coming up in the next couple years. Nothing is going to change no matter what the idiot does.
