I must have a different definition of prospect than the author, because I wouldn't count guys like Matthews and Nylander as prospects when they're expected to be full-time roster players this year.

He also gave praise to the Oilers blue line, which pretty much discounts the entire article.

Anyone who has still has Calder Trophy eligibility should be classified as a "prospect" in my eyes. I'm even OK with leaving mature European rookies in there, although some published lists do omit them.

Obviously I don't know how things work in specific organizations, but it's my general understanding that past rubber stamping the 1st rounders the GM's role in drafting is not a particularly active or prominent one. I'm not saying he can't have an impact or veto something if he really wants to, I mean he's still the GM.

I'd actually be fine if they eliminated the age limits on the Calder anyway. I had no problem with Makarov winning it either, and I'm confident that it hasn't affected Mike Modano's life and career much as well.
