Last night's hit on Flacco was brutal...

So was it a dirty hit? Officials did eject him but still...

NFL Officials Botch Player Safety Again After Brutal Hit on Joe Flacco

The Ravens organization immediately placed Flacco into the concussion protocol and at halftime ruled him out for the rest of contest.

It was a needless, awful hit, which begs the question: Why wasn't it considered a flagrant foul, thus warranting an automatic ejection?

Alonso received an unnecessary roughness penalty, but he stayed in the contest and finished second on the Dolphins with five tackles.

Two arguments are being made in the linebacker's favor. First, the speed of the game makes it nearly impossible to redirect once a defender is in motion. Second, Flacco slid late.

Clearly there will be fines that's a given but man that imo was a cheap shot!

Dirty. When a QB starts to slide the play is over and you pull up.. period. He doubled down and blasted him. He can expect a healthy fine.

no doubt dirty. Flacco already into the slide when the hit came. Not a Flacco fan, but felt bad for him after that.

Seems like the Dolphins are kinda scumbags.

Definitely Dirty with the shoulder to the head hit - the only way Alonso escapes suspension will be the lateness and lameness of Flacco's slide.

I'd like to see the League stomp on both Alonso and Suh, regardless.

Late slide, Flacco pushed the issue just a little too far.
Unfortunately he won't remember it.....

When a defender is angling downward in that direction with their shoulder or helmet, that is a dead giveaway that they see the slide happening and are adjusting their body to hit the guy on the ground. If they have time to change their body angle to hit the QB during his slide, then they also would have had time to ease up and not hit the QB (especially in the head).

It is amazing to me that we still see guys launching, spearing, and/or changing their angles to hit guys who are sliding after all of the ejections, fines, and suspensions.

This play is not defensible and I believe Kiko will face a suspension for this.

THAT is what targeting should be defined as rather than the bullshit it's become.

First off, to think you can process what was going on at that speed and let up is making you all look like unknowing keyboard quarterbacks. And if you watch it in slow motion, his ass has not even touched grass when he gets drilled. So in the split second between starting the slide and getting hit, Kiko should have let up?

No way, your brain can;t get a signal to your body, which is already in motion, that fast.
