Who are the top 3?
By Vezina standards, Luongo, Thomas, and Rinne are the top 3. Lunquist is up there, and so is Miller. Not that they are on the block, but would your trade GIroux and Bob for one of these guys? Is that certain to end our frustration?

Homer will roll the dice again next year with the goaltending position!

I guess he figures our D should block everything and anything!

I think if the cap goes up a decent amount that they may actually try to get somebody decent.

Of course, I think that every year and every year they do and get some mediocre goaltender.

I would take a Corey Schneider type goalie though.

The theory is correct IMO that we dont need a big name goalie.

The problem is we cant use backups...

i think they'll make a play for vokoun.. he's UFA, coming off a 5.4 mil contract.. based on how the goalie market has been for older guys, he should be a good bit lower than that next year

that being said.. lets not talk about next year yet eh? :)

Does anybody know what goaltenders will be RFA/UFA status after this season?

I'd say round 2 the Ray Emery(he may be up for arbitration though, according to hockeybuzz) experiment and re-sign Boosh(try for a 2 way deal). Get rid of Leighton at any cost and let Bob start the season in the AHL(unless he wrecks in camp again).

This way in the worst possible scenario for 2 goalies we're around 3.5 mill in cap space and finally some actual stability in net.

Going after a big money goalie would be nice, but I can't see this organization wrapping up 4mill+ in one goalie. I would prefer they stay away from Vokoun as he is aging and I doubt will get big money again(unless it's from a really bad team).

I am very interested to see what the cap is next year because I do believe a lot of our spending will be determined by that.

Thanks!

The only goalies we should even entertain (from that list) are Vokoun or Bryz. I DO NOT want Giggy.

Have to respectfully disagree - I think that if this organization believes in Bob at all, then they need to make Bob 'The Man' next year and ride it out. The kid has been shaky at times for sure, but playing in the A isn't going to solve anything. When Bob was playing 4 out of 5 nights, he was lights out. Like most goalies, he needs regular PT, not in one night, out the next. And getting pulled each and every time he let's in 3 goals...drives me bonkers.

Give him the gig and 60+ games, bring Boucher back as his backup, and see where you are come trade deadline time. We talk about how the Flyers keep signing old vets who don't pan out...why do it again? Isn't that the definition of insanity... doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?

Anyway, GO FLYERS!!

i really think the goalie next year is bobs..he still has lots of potential and i really think he has the goods to become a franchise goalie. will he? i dont know. do i think he will? i think the chance is good. plus the only way we'll ever know is to give him another shot at the starting reigns next year..i think its him as the starter and either boosh back as backup or leights brought up as backup.
getting these big free agent goalies is a waste of money. look at the dominant franchise goalies..they are home grown. this is one of the few chances we'll get at grooming a guy like that.

I'm totally game for Bob being the guy, cause I do think he has the potential to be a top 10 goalie. However, the coaching staff has already shown that they can't commit to him and that really pisses me off. You nailed it right on the head they have to play him, and let him work it out if he has a bad game. The pulling and sitting bullshit is what has him all fucked up now.

I think we have to brace ourselves for the "sophmore slump" with Bob. Every goalie's second year is worse than his first as the scouting on him increases. Bob may be the goalie of the future, but I would be really disappointed if he were the goalie they relied on next year. I think he got a lot of experience this year and should definitely play in some games next year, but not as the starter and the season shouldn't depend on his play.

Of course, if the organization really does believe he's the guy of the future, you can bring in an older guy, like a Vokoun or Giggy, who may even help Bob develop for a year or two, and would definitely be an upgrade.

I don't think the Flyers need a top-5 or even top-10 goalie, but they need a legitimate starter. Right now, they're riding two back-ups in Boucher and Leighton, which is what drove me crazy going into this season.

Backlund now Flyers 3rd goalie according to pannacio. Wonder if BOB is hurt? Or if Lavy lost all confidence in him?
