I'm going to predict that the Cowboys draft a QB to be QB of the future this draft.
I think there's a higher probability they extend Dak. He's only 31, a good player despite the team's post season failures, and they gotta reduce that $55M cap number.

I never felt like Jones had ever bought into Dak. Dak is a fine QB in a bad situation in my eyes, yes he isn't great but he is good and good enough to win it all if the team wouldn't always fall apart. I don't think Jones supports him 100% and would rather move on. I feel bad for Dak but i also wouldn't want him here lol. Not saying you do mind you, just stating I wouldn't want him because i want a guy 27 or younger as the Hawks QB with some real upside. I still think it takes 2 years minimum to get this mess turned around, then have stuff in place for a run in 2026.

Sucks but it's better than all the Bullshit and having smoke blown up our asses like they have been doing for the last what 6+ years. I haven't felt like we had a true "championship" caliber football team in a long time. When we had Wilson i felt like we had enough "magic" to pull out one but not enough talent. Wilson lost his magic though and there was a avalanche of bad moves.

smart move for Dallas would be to extend him and keep Jones hands out of the pot. They wont have success till he goes hands off but his ego is so big he wont do that.

I just posted this in the New England Patriots Forum. Though you all should know that there are rumors swirling about this.

Sporting News 8/3/2024

Seattle Seahawks starting QB Geno Smith underwent multiple MRIs on Thursday 8/1. He was suffering from problems with his hips and knees. The 34 year old QB has been the Seahawks starting QB for the past two seasons and has helped the team stay competitive. His backups right now are Sam Howell and PJ Walker and neither has been providing any confidence to the coaching staff.

The Seahawks have reportedly called the New England Patriots to check on the availability of QB Bailey Zappe. It's not known what the Seahawks have offered, if anything. On Friday, Zappe was not involved at all in the two hours of 11 on 11 or 7 on 7 practice sessions. Could it be that the Patriots are seriously considering trading the #4 QB???

His problem isn't considered serious but some imaging was done yesterday and that should tell us more. Smith has looked on point in camp while Howell has looked bad, holding on the ball to long and indecisive (wanting to see separation by the receiver before pulling the trigger). I image the Seahawks are more concern by Howell play then the problem Smith has and are seeing who else may be available to compete with Howell.

They know that the Patriots are not going to put Joe Milton on the Practice Squad. That would just be inviting another team to come along and make him a an offer and carry him on their 53 man roster. He's already thrown two passes that carried over 60 yards in the air and has thrown two bullets between defenders over 35 yards. The Chargers have already called and offered a fourth round pick for him. I think will take at least a second to even get Wolfe to start to consider a trade.

That leaves Bailey Zappe. He's not big, but he did win two games year before last and the offense moves when he takes over. He's just not going to find a spot here with Brissett, #3 pick Mayer and Milton, who is starting to threaten Mayer.

Seahawks might be able to get Zappe cheap and have a real serviceable backup for Geno.

Don't think the Seahawks are ready to give up on Howell after just trading for him but are doing some window shopping.

Maybe it's a moot point with Geno Smith expected to return to practice very soon with the injury concerns subsided, but this would be a really weird move that on the surface doesn't make much sense. Geno is not a world beater, but he's been in place as the starter for a couple years here now and represents some veteran stability & continuity that has some value in the midst of other organizational changes. With camp already going and pre-season games starting soon, the timing would be off to make a big change at the most important position. If Geno tears his ACL tomorrow, I would expect the team to move forward with Howell as the starter and maybe bring in a journeyman type as a backup or mild competition.

I doubt the rumor has any merit to it. If Geno tore his ACL and they felt they needed someone better than Howell, it wouldn't be Zappe.

I read the rumor as needing a better backup to Howell - but since it's never gonna materialize that's a distinction without a difference.

I agree with that, but it seems like every so often something happens that makes me question what I think I know. I definitely didn't expect us trading for Howell this off-season.

I didn't see the Howell trade coming but it also made perfect sense at the time. They needed to hold on to cap space and they needed a backup QB.

howell is good behind a decent oline.
Yeah, tough one here. For years we gave our OL a tad bit of a pass because we said Russell "held onto the ball too long" and made it tougher on them to sustain blocks, but then it really hasn't been much better most of the last 2 years with a QB who doesn't really scramble. The run game hasn't been much better either, or at the very least it's inconsistent. A better OL seems to be at the top of our off-season wish list every year.

I for one hope Scott Huff can do what Andy Dickerson,Mike Solari and Tom Cable couldn't do and develop a decent to good to great OL. May take a bit of time. If he fails then perhaps the Seahawks need to evaluate their approach to stocking the OL.

Pete and John probably had the most misses on the OL. Some of it was bad luck but sometimes they just whiffed.

I think Sam Howell was thrown into the fire too soon behind a god-awful Oline and a very mediocre WR core in Washington but I also think he's a 2 year project. I do think his experience is good enough to make him a viable temporary back-up to Geno if needed though. I'm with you @HaroldSeattle , I want to see what Huff does coaching this revamped O-line. That is the biggest question mark on the team right now for me. That unit gets fixed to a point of just being good, this offense can light teams up.

I think Howell was a pretty decent upside move for relatively little draft capital(a couple of draft swaps).

The OL is easily the biggest question mark on the team.

I agree. Howell being so young is basically like getting a QB in the 2nd -3rd rd with upside and he actually has some NFL experience. If he can fix his accuracy issues ( not unprecedented), he could well be a very good move. They knew Drew Lock was leaving anyway and he was really never part of a future plan so knowing Washington was drafting a QB anyway, smart to just kick the tires and see how it plays out.
