I'm pretty sure that guy was considered a "can't miss" prospect when he was coming out...

Here's something I never even considered...

What about making Dorsey a NT? He's a little lean to play NT, but even the startng NT only played 30% of the snaps.

Dorsey is actually a very good run-stopper IMO.

Dorsey is wasted in a 3-4 scheme, in a 4-3 he could be a really special player but he is just a pretty good DE in the 3-4. He was just starting to get the hang of it before he started having injury problems but he'll never be as good as he is in a 4-3.

No to NT.

I agree that he fits better into a 4-3, but he could add solid depth to the DL. I can't see him as a NT, though.

Oh he certainly gives us solid depth and provides a possible heir apparent for Smith, but I do think he is wasted in this scheme.

Not a good fit imo, but clearly the type of player they target. Young, talented, and potentially undervaluedd

Maybe Tomsula can coach him up?

Quite possibly. We'll see what happens. I guess I'm just kind of surprised that he wouldn't be looking for something bigger.

I remember people upset that we signed Justin Smith. They said he was too small to be a DE in a 3-4. That seemed to work out ok for us. Not saying that Dorsey will ever be anywhere close to Smith, just saying I trust our FO.

I'm not saying that Dorsey can't play in the 3-4. The fact is, he's been playing in the 3-4 for nearly his entire NFL career. I'm just saying that I believe he is better in the 4-3 and I'm surprised that he is visiting a 3-4 team. I wouldn't at all have a problem if we signed him.

I'm sure he is. I consider Dorsey a depth move more than anything. I absolutely loved Dorsey coming out of college. To be honest i thought he was going to be one of the best DT's of all time. Here's to hoping he's just one of those guys who turns on the lights later in his career.

I would still expect us to sign another NT though FA and/or the draft.

I think if the Chiefs had stuck with the 4-3, Dorsey woul have had a much better career to date. I think he's an absolute beast of a DT and could cause some major damage in the right circumstances.

I completely expect us to draft a NT.

The problem I have with signing Dorsey is he played out his monster rookie contract, something like 5 years $50 million.

I think after that kind of bling, it takes a guy who truly loves to play football to sign a smaller 2nd contract and keep playing at a high level.

Lots of guys tend to pack it in after they have banked so much coin. Unless he's stupid and broke. He's gonna play for much less on his 2nd contract.
