No not good. Here's the story on ESPN: Top draft prospect Carter charged in fatal crash

"The evidence demonstrated that both vehicles switched between lanes, drove in the center turn lane, drove in opposite lanes of travel, overtook other motorists, and drove at high rates of speed, in an apparent attempt to outdistance each other," the police statement said.

Police investigators have determined that "alcohol impairment, racing, reckless driving, and speed were significant contributing factors to the crash." A toxicology report indicated that LeCroy's blood alcohol concentration was .197 -- more than twice the legal limit in Georgia -- at the time of the crash, according to police.

The SUV driven by LeCroy was traveling about 104 mph shortly before the crash.

According to documents and recordings of 911 calls reviewed by the Journal-Constitution, at least two vehicles driven by Georgia football players had been at the scene, including the Jeep driven by Carter, who left the scene before police or emergency personnel arrived.

Carter returned to the scene less than two hours later, according to the paper, which reported that he was asked by police whether he had been racing the vehicle that crashed.

Documents reviewed by the Journal-Constitution show that Carter first told police that he heard the crash from a nearby apartment complex, but then later told an officer he had been driving both behind and beside the SUV driven by LeCroy.

The Journal-Constitution also obtained surveillance video footage from multiple downtown locations in Athens taken the night of the crash. The footage, which also has been reviewed by police, shows three vehicles leaving the area at the same time: Carter's Jeep, LeCroy's Ford and a 2019 Dodge Charger driven by Bulldogs linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson.

In another thread where @HaroldSeattle was talking about bridge QBs and their salaries, @flyerhawk mentioned that neither Mariota nor Winston ever had a season close to Geno's 2022.

But Winston was 5-2 in his 7 games in 2021 with a 102.8 passer rating and a QBR of 64.4, compared with Geno's 2022 QBR of 100.9 and QBR of 60.8.

On the heels of that, coming off an injury, Winston signed a two-year deal for $28M with $21M guaranteed.

One year later and Geno not injured, I feel like a two-year deal for $35M with $25M guaranteed is the right zone for the Seahawks, but somebody else might want him for longer and be willing to offer him more.

Seattle at this point should be looking to trade back.

Carter had some concerns about his love for the game and work ethic (according to scouts EARLY in the year) and now with the car incident it seems there's just zero care about his life and improving himself.

Unless Stroud or Anderson is there (which is HIGHLY unlikely to be the case) trade down. There's nobody else worth at #5 taking.

The problem is there is no reason for a team to move up to 5 then.

There's always dumbass teams looking to move up, Harold. Trade with said dumbass team who will probably give us another 2nd rounder or 2024 1st.

Fortunately we have a pretty good GM.. that needs to stop trading away picks for players and then paying them a shit ton of money... hopefully that was all because of the ego driven QB we had. And who traded away an all pro center away for a tight end that was a receiver that Seattle decided they wanted to turn into a blocker.

You get where I'm going with this? Some dumbass team will be dumb enough to trade into #5 for Richardson or one of the other lackluster prospects at #5.

Winston played half a season and threw 20 attempts a game for a 167 yards a game. He did manage to not throw a ton of picks but that's pretty much small sample size theater.

If they can get a massive hometown discount for Geno then they need to get Minshew and then draft all defense.

Here’s a theory; most QBs perform better with the current Seahawks coaches than they would elsewhere.

Whatever merit that theory has subtracts from how much Geno is worth to them.

It's entirely reasonable to believe that the Seahawks system helps QBs. It's not reasonable to assume that you can put any QB into the system and they will succeed.

The question for me is whether the Seahawks could have the same kind of success with another solid journeyman. Brissett, for example, whose QBR last year was just a hair below Geno’s. (Geno had better receivers.) While developing a QB.

Brisset would make sense if the Seahawks draft a QB early.

But if they plan to rebuild the defense with early picks, then it is a needless risk.

Yes, if they use early picks on D they can use cash on the somewhat safer short-term bet of Geno at QB. Depends how they value the players.

And I'm generally fine with them going in either direction. What I DON'T want is for the Hawks to move on from Geno and replace him someone off the scrap heap or taking whatever is left at No. 5.

I also think it is VERY unlikely that PC/JS would actually do either of those things. If there is a QB they really like, then they will do what they can to grab him. If they don't, then they will bring Geno back.

free agency essentially starts a week from tomorrow, so we should know within the week what the plan is

I would think so but it is possible that the Seahawks roll the dice and see what the market is for Geno if he's asking for too much.

Its normal for players to think they are worth WAY more than they are and of course teams are motivated not to over pay. Letting him hit the FA market will make his value clear and they can the two parties can decide on how to proceed. Geno will receive his market value. Either with the Seahawks or some other team. It will be interesting to see what his market value actually is.
