Better get a game-changing defender. Geno will be mediocre among starting QBs.

To be fair, mediocre gets paid about what he's getting. Among the 12 non-rookie-deal QBs expected to start, he's tied for 11th with Cousins at $35M per. Only Goff is lower at $33.5M.

I fully believe that Pete thinks that if he can turn the defense around and get it close to the 2013 era team, we can be Super Bowl contenders.

Of course building an elite defense is easier said than done.

But now the Hawks can focus on defense, center, and WR3.

Well, I'd assume the first 4 picks will be DL, DL, LB, C/G...

Can forget about drafting a QB. Interesting that Seattle signed Smith right after Carter had his legal issue.... I wonder if they think Carter will be there at #5 (normally he would not be - and Carroll is happy to deal with headcases) and there will be a run on QBs so move down... I mean at this point with Seattle off the board on a QB, I'd move from #5 down to the Raiders who will probably stupidly gamble on Richardson.

This tops the Adams trade & pay deal as the biggest mistake EVER by Pete & John.

Unless the QBs that wind up available at No. 5 are complete busts and Geno plays as well as he did last year, or better.

A little bit more than I expected. We'll see what the final numbers are which is what really matters.

3 - 105. Pretty much what I expected. I said 45-50 million guaranteed, so the 52 is a little high. We'll see how much of the 52 million is signing bonus and how much is salary.

No point in speculating about this contract until we get the commercial terms...

Not thrilled about this. $35M for a one year wonder in an offensive system that is IMO VERY favorable to most QBs (two stud WRs, solid TEs, great RB, solid OTs, great offensive coordinator)....

That said, if it really came down to this or Anthony Richardson? I'd rather take Geno at this price. I don't want that dork Richardson being taken at #5. At this point I'd trade down big time on #5 and accumulate as much talent as possible in a deep DL/LB and early 2nd C/G draft which is the exact positions we need.

C- grade. Hardly a bargain by any means. QBs are getting paid ridiculous amounts so I understand at this point.. Carr just got an absurd contract and Jones is probably next... but I can't grade $35M per favorably. I'll adjust this rating based on the actual terms.

To much for Geno and his production in 2023 will prove that but this also means no round one or round two QB's YES! lets use those picks where they are needed. Hawks can Cut bait from Geno easy enough so lets build the defense and the future with a round 3-5 QB.

Making one mistake will allow them to not make a 2nd mistake like Drafting a QB in the first round. If the Hawks Draft a QB day one I am going to start wearing a Paper bag over my head at Hawks games lmao.

Fingers crossed it's a sign and trade deal for Geno LMAO

You have to measure the contract compared to other options. If we don't resign Geno it means we take a backup or rookie and hope that he does nearly as well which is a big if.

Seahawks fans have convinced them that the offense is plug n play. That really isn't true.

We should all have expected this to happen. Pete has 3 years left and he is hitching his wagon to geno and an improved run game and defense

That's 100% how I took it. John isn't a spring chicken either... I think both of them are in this for the next 3 years and if they can't win, well F it... they have a ton of draft capital so at this point try and 'hit' and sign a QB who is willing to accept a mid tier contract and not completely annihilate the team, and call it an f'ing day.

Bit of an overreaction. I'm not crazy about it, but they weren't going to get anybody but Richardson at 5 IMO, and maybe they have faith in the quality of defenders in the draft.

Seahawks were 10th in points per drive, which is fine. I expect Walker to step up enough to make up for Geno slipping back, and I bet the third year of Geno's contract is set up to be a write-off. Don't despair. A good D and a good run game can still take you far.

I'm holding out and still hoping they draft a QB, top-tier QB in the draft. They could move up a bit or move down a bit and draft that top-tier QB still.
However, given the money they are throwing away on Geno the odds just got longer

Just squeaking into the playoffs just doesn't do it for me and with Geno, that's the best-case scenario. Seahawks need a franchise QB on a rookie deal and that was in their grasp, they settled for mediocre.

In their grasp at 5? I'm not sure.

A move up to #3 with the Cards could possibly net Shroud or a move down just a bit and draft Richardson and Levy could be available with pick 5 possibly. So I feel it was in their grasp to draft which ever QB they like.

Im telling you, next year is a better class. We hedge our bets with a trade down to pick up an extra first.
If geno tanks the team, we cash in those picks and trade up for one of the top QBs and play for a SB in 24 & 25
