John says they are "considering" a QB at 5. So now that's news. It is utterly meaningless.
You seemed good when the Seahawks said they wanted to resign Geno, but when they say they are interested in a QB with pick 5 it’s misinformation. Everything in the media has to be taken with a grain of salt, because the Seahawks are not giving out what their plans are.

The issue with that is he would be hurt week one, he just is not durable for the beating he puts his body through. He is only 6'1" 213 pounds and tries to play like he is 6'3" 230! The other issue is many TE's out class his coverage ability and he is to small for them. Small box safety isn't a good combo.
I definitely understand what your saying. Just thinking if we do run a 2/4/5 or 3/4/4 going forward it might be another possible place to put him. At this point he might be the worst trade in Seattle history.:L

it could be posturing, hoping to drive a team to make a big offer to trade up. the bears seem to be doing the same exact thing.

I’m sure the Seahawks will look at all options including a trade. Be interesting to see if the pick is coveted enough to bring a strong offer.

You seem to be disagreeing with me in your first sentence and then agreeing with me in your 2nd.

The Seahawks may draft a QB with the 5th pick. I have no idea. But the fact that they said they would consider it means absolutely nothing.

I take it all with a grain of salt. including articles speculating that Geno will be resigned.

You never know until it happens but given that both sides keep saying that they are very optimistic a deal can happen and we have John Schneider saying today that even if they do resign Geno, that doesn't mean they won't sign a QB at 5, isn't a good sign for the anti-Geno crowd.

It isn't a good sign for the D crowd.

What you call the anti Geno crowd is actually anti over investing in Geno. For the right cost I welcome him back and I've put forth what I feel is the max acceptable cost for Geno, less would be better as far as signing Geno goes. I'm also for investing in the search for the next franchise QB immediately because Geno isn't the QB to lead this team to a SB and reaching the SB is the goal I believe the Seahawks should strive for.

You've made it plainly clear that you don't want Geno to come back to the team. That's fine. You've also made it clear that you want the Seahawks to draft ANY QB that is available to them at 5.

I view it as jockeying for position... You should always to do this before the draft to let teams think you're going to do one thing when in fact, you have all intentions to do another... Maybe they want another team or two to jump in front of them to draft a QB so that either Anderson/Carter falls to them for certain... That's the first thing that came to mind when I heard that interview...

That is not really accurate because, at the right cost, I have no problem with him on the roster. He's short-term insurance while the Seahawks search for their franchise QB. I'm simply against investing too much in a bandaid at QB.

If the right cost is so low that there is no realistic chance of signing him, then you don't really want him back.

I proposed 20 million and incentives that is not "so low that there is no realistic chance". Proposing to give him a 45 million signing bonus or even 40 million is sheer foolishness out of desperation. IMO the Seahawks are going to let him test the market and then decide if it is worth resigning him and if some team wants to pay the kind of money you propose then he's outpriced his value for the Seahawks. I personal feel the market for him is much less than what you propose giving him.

I don't really get why you think that 40 or 45 million dollars is some insane number. How much do you think that Derek Carr is going to get?

My projected number is on the low side of the projected numbers for Smith.

Carr has been a career starter and Geno is a journeyman in the league, not apples to apples, and pointless to compare them. 40-45 million for a career journeyman is absurd IMO.

Your entire position is based on an assumption that Geno Smith's season last year was a mirage. I doubt most teams will be so subjective about measuring him.

Yes it was a mirage and if some other team signs him we'll see for ourselves that is exactly what it was.
