March 7th is the deadline to apply the franchise tag, so won't be long before we know if the FT is in play or not.
they counted this guy as one

Apparently, McDaniel's dad is black.Lol how? Is he Hispanic?
If they tag him then I suspect they will make a move for a QB in the draft.Only way I feel they would use the FT tag on Geno is if they all ready have a trade partner.

But I think they will resign him before that happens.
if we tag him I think theres a good chance its to make a trade. if he stays, its going to be with a minimum 3 year dealIf the Hawks Tag Geno then his contract is over 32-38 mill. He wouldn't then sign a contract that would see him make 15-20 Mill. If he wants more than 20 let his ass WALK!

I bet his numbers will be something like
3600-3750 Yards 25 TD 15 TO 62% completion rate. thats not worth 20 million
Imagine before the season began, mired in a quarterback battle with Drew Lock in Seattle, that we’d have Geno Smith as a top free-agent target for the 2023 offseason. It’s not often you hear about the age-32, Year 10 breakout, but that’s exactly what we’re witnessing this season from Smith.
Nothing about what he’s doing is fluky or excessively bolstered by things like play action, an outlier performance in unstable metrics like passing grade against pressure, or any other method you use to try to poke holes in his production this season. Smith’s 79.8 overall grade and 87.6 grade from a clean pocket this season ranked ninth and 12th, respectively. His 14 passing touchdowns on throws of 20-plus yards were two more than the next-best quarterback, and his 5.6% big-time throw rate ranked fifth.
There’s no current indication we should expect some massive regression, either. Smith’s 85.8 passing grade against middle-of-field-open coverage further illustrates that he didn't benefit in an outsized fashion from loaded box counts that freed up his receivers in an effort to sell out against the run. We can go on and on, but the fact of the matter is that Smith played like a legitimate top quarterback in the NFL in 2022
Geno is going to get a contract for more than 20 million. I don't get why so many Hawk fans think that he would even consider a salary in that price range.

Contract Projection: Four years, $150 million ($37.5M per year); $112.5 million total guaranteed
To be clear I don't think he's getting 37 per.
But he is 100% getting more than 20 mill a year. And most likely from the Seahawks.
Agreed, he'll get more than 20. Agreed it'll be from the Seahawks. I just don't think he's worth more than 20, hence my apprehension that he'll get the big payday and the team will be stuck with him. Honestly, I think he comes in around $35m per - but it's that guaranteed money that'll be the key.
Geno was a Top 10 QB last year. 30 million a year is what you pay top 10 QBs.
Yes, Geno overperformed. Maybe I'd be happier if he'd done it more than once and hadn't faded at the end. Again, I don't doubt he'll get the pay day - I just question if he can continue to perform near a top 10 level. Time will tell.

We've had talks and we're in the process of getting all that settled right now," Smith said from the Pro Bowl in Las Vegas in an interview that aired Friday afternoon. "It's looking very good. We think we can get some things done, but obviously those things take time. This is the process that I hate about the NFL because I just want to play football, but it's a business as well, so we've got to take care of business and then we'll get back to the football."
I’m nervous about this Geno contract, giving him some huge dollar contract is risky when he’s only had 1 good year.. This could end bad for us, not trying to be negative but it’s just too dam risky… If we end up giving him 40 million a year say bye bye to any Super Bowl window, NO WAY should we overpay this guy and hit our cap when he’s not elite, just ok .. This is a HUGE moment going forward, I’d actually be ok letting him walk if he wants too much..
We aren't giving him 40 million a year.
Not sure why people are capping Carroll's tenure. As we've seen in every aspect of life, including football, people are active well later than they used to be.the bottom line is, carroll has three years left of coaching in him and there isnt time to find a long term answer at QB. we will very likely hitch our wagon to geno and hope they make the right picks in the draft to get the defense and run game back to the top of the league.
