Until Colorado decided to pay Arenado to play for St Louis.
You really think you can compare the 2? At least COL got some prospects here. I’m not sure Arenado is even the worst salary dump we’ve seen.

I’m not as convinced there

almost reminds me of the Goldschmidt deal where St Louis may be getting the wrong years of Arenados career

could be wrong

Not only was it the worst trade, but it never made any sense for the Pirates. They weren’t on the verge of competing and certainly had no need to make a “win now” type of deal. They gave up all these good prospects for no reason!

they were like in a fringe WC race and went all in
Terrible

Oh! I didn’t remember it that way. Did they still have Cole and McCutchen at that time? It was stilll a massive overpay for Archer, regardless, but at least they had some nice pieces, if so.

I don’t think so, it was one of those overachieving teams that looked up one day in July and said shit we are in this thing, let’s go make an overreaction trade

He can opt out after this season. Market has changed, so maybe he doesn't.

But it's still pretty conceivable St Louis gets him and $50M for '21 and that's it . And all they had to give up was a few prospects, the best of who may grade out to a replacement level MLBer.

I would DOUBT he opts out in this market, but maybe he has a monster season and wants to test the waters?? Did I read correctly that the Rockies are paying his full salary this year? The Cards wouldn’t get the $50m if he opts out, but they would get a free year of Arenado for some fringe prospects. Now let’s watch the Rockies overpay Story to offset this move. Terrible.

Their GM should have been pushed into one of the three rivers......
No need to worry. They have Ben Cherington(he of the Pablo Sandoval and Rusney Castillo disasters...among other catastrophes) steering the ship now.

I am looking forward to the 12 year Lindor deal

MLB contracts are out of control. I wouldn’t guarantee ANYONE more than 5-6 years(including Betts and Trout). Those long-term deals never look good for the last 3-4 years.

How do you think Cole and Stanton will look for the last few years of their deals when they are still combining to make $60m/year?

Mets winning the bidding war....with the Mets. I don’t believe there is even another team in the mix.

Dodgers apparently

which would be even funnier
