The fact that Hextall moved one of the albatross contracts was huge.

Not only did he move Grossman he did away with the mess of dealing with Pronger's contract and the LTIR waivers and not having bankable cap space.

Gives Gagne a year to prove his worth. Adds some offensive depth and speed to the forward ranks and he is young enough that he could be a long term solution.

Well done Hexy

I just did the math...he cleared nearly $5 million from the cap...yes the LTIR would have applied, but now that is not needed.

All Hail Ron!!

Wouldn't surprise me. I think that will come completely off the books then. Yotes just don't have the money for that.

The main point of the trade apparently was to remove that ridiculous Pronger abortion of a contract and to get a pick. Hextall is cleaning up the messes of the past. Now if he can get somebody to take McDonald and move that Vinny contract, he will indeed have really done a superhuman overall job. Right now, Hextall is having a helluva draft.

Holy $hit, I can't believe pronger's contract is off the flyers back. I kind of liked grossman, with the right mix around him he's a descent stay at home guy, but grossman for gagner and an unloading of that albatross of a contract is f'n outstanding....this may have been the best draft weekend for the flyers that I can remember, and I'm an old fart.

Hey Retro - sounds like Hexy should be the Phillies GM - he would probably be able to unload Howard and some of the other dead weight on the Phillies :heh:

Man what a breath of fresh air Hextall has been so far - not only because of the draft but because of other moves he has done

As a fan I feel so comfortable with him at the helm

I agree Shrike19. Hextall has really done a great job and we have not had this good of a draft in a very long time.

Wow...I hadn't even considered the buyout angle. That would be incredible.

For sure Snowdog. Even though baseball is not Hextall's sport, I KNOW FOR A FACT, he would do way better than braindead and he would turn the Phillies around in a heartbeat.
