Grossmann is a great guy and all, a true warrior that takes the body effectively and blocks a ton of shots, but he is quite simply too slow and/or too poor of skater for the modern day Nhl. We have 2-3 guys minimum ready to do his job and be far less of a liability in the process.

Even if the Flyers don't buy out Gagner they have improved their depth at forward with a legit NHL player.
Could the plan be for him to form another "duo" with Simmonds? That would mean Giroux and Jake, Cooter and Read, Vandy and Bellemare. That is pretty attractive...and if he is just here to be bought out, well, that works too. Really this is a win win.
Still shaking my head at it.

lol. The fact that a buyout would count against the Lightning is insane haha. This deal is Just making a mockery of the cba. The nhl approved it all to according to Twitter.

I'll join Hexy's church wow! You guys are right it doesn't matter if they buy him out or not it's a win. He's not a bad player but would be better on the wing. Maybe Hexy's going to see what happens after FA before making up his mind he may find a better option out there.

I am sure Hextall is going to focus on a remedy for the Vinny contract and what he might do with MacDonald. He may find a suitor for McDonald going forward and that would be fine with me. One thing for sure, Hextall really has a grasp of what this team needs to get way better and the very fact he went outside the box on his HC and some of the draft selections provides clear evidence he learned how to construct a potential championship team when he was working for the Kings.

As for Sam Gagner, I don't think he would be in the plans for this team - they're not giving him a long term contract so it's best to just buy him out now anyway

That's probably going to happen Cobiemonster.

He's a 40 point type of player at best and that is NOT what you are looking for in a second line center - on a great team, he's a third line center, but the Flyers are not a great team right now and they need to look for better options

Cap space is critical right now and if they can create more of it that's important - Jake's extension will be sooner rather than later and that's key as well

Interestingly, former Flyer Mike Richards was put on waivers. The Los Angeles Kings waived veteran forward Mike Richards for the purpose of buying out the remainder of his 12-year, $69 million contract, according to multiple reports. The Kings will be on the hook for two-thirds of the remaining $22 million of the deal until 2024-25. Over that same span, a portion of Richards' contract will remain on the Kings' salary cap.

Well it appears that Gagner is staying put with the Flyers this upcoming season. I'm good with it. He will be motivated and I think he will perform well with a group of good players around him, which he didn't have in Arizona. Furthermore, he can fill our need at LW or RW. I don't see the FLyers spending much in FA which leads me to believe why they are keeping Gagner here for one season.

If he plays first line left wing he may put up 60 points.
